Planning a trip to coz for May. Many shops offer valet services. I'm worried though that I could get on the boat and discover that my gear has been sent out on another boat. So am wondering what do you all think about valet services?

I really never heard of that and many of the valet ops have one boat.

Or you could sign up with a big op that gives you a locker and you and your 50 closest friends can shelp your own gear... :)

I love VIP services. The only thing that I don't leave behind is my regulator /computer. I leave my BC, wetsuit, fins, shoes, and mask. I like my gear to be rinse out after a dive so it feels some what clean. But, you want to take your mask/fins if you're thinking of snorkeling between dive days. I haven't had any of my stuff missing. I dove in Hawaii and Indonesia with valet services. I'm spoiled by them. I didn't get any of those services in Florida or San Carlos,Mexico. I'll be in Cozumel in less than a week!

I keep my mask (snorkel) and fins - so I can snorkel or skin dive any time.

That's simply not going to happen and if somehow it did they would bring it to you to the dive site.

Agreed. We dove with Aldora for 10 days, they run many boats, and our stuff was always on the correct boat. Not an issue. And if something should be misplaced, they radio or call the shop and pick the item up.

This has never happened to us. One reason may be that our divemaster keeps track of our gear personally.

We take our masks, fins, and snorkels so we can use them at the beach if needed.

I wouldn't worry about it. I have never heard of this happening, and even if it did it's a very small island.

This happened to me once. When I boarded the boat, I noticed some piece of gear--fins, if I recall--was not there. The boat radioed their sister boat, the two boats rendezvoused as we headed out to the dive site, and the other crew handed my fins to me.
