I'm pro spear fishing, I'm just against spearfishing some species like Goliath Groupers. I'm for sustainable use of resources so that people still can go spearfishing in 50 years. How you get from this to 'shaddowy forces', I don't get.

The topic of the thread shifted from proposed government regulations pertaining to scuba diving, as pointed out earlier, this isn't just about spearfishing (read the proposals), to government and who's behind all of this. Do some research on what buckled plates posted about who Pastor Martin Niemoller is and you'll see why I mentioned Germany. I was being slightly facetious. But still, I think you have completely missed the point. You are extremely naive if you don't believe people in government eventually become corrupted by power, control and money.

And just so you know. Jewfish have been protected since 1990. No one is spearfishing them. However, some would argue their populations are doing so well now and since they consume so many other important reef fish, including sharks, we should start harvesting them like we do alligators and now bears in the state of Florida. By issuing tags to hunters.

I think undercurrent last month had a article that an illegal spearfisher took out all of a certain species on a reef a few months back. One man's selfishness destroys the enjoyment of thousands.

Before calling someone dumb, (which I take no offense to by the way, you only bolster my argument to the reader), just stop for a second and really think about your responses in this thread. @mikeycanuk I don't think anyone would disagree with that. I think you should post the link you're referring too, but from your post the operative word is "illegal spearfisher". A law or regulation obviously didn't change what supposedly happened.

I can't speak for other sportsmen, but I practice sustainability. I don't try to limit out just because the law says I can take X amount of fish. I don't clean out a ledge. I don't liter, in fact I pick up litter when I'm on the water. Tires, balloons, beer cans, you name it. I think you'll find most true sportsmen are far more conservationist and practice sustainability than they get credit for.
