not sure, but it's there. Most computers have them, but most people ignore them. Which phone architecture are you on? I use a windows phone, but frankly there isn't anything on there that I would need/want to change at this point to where not having an iphone would be a deal breaker. It's still infinitely better than a Zoop if anything because of the screen, and cheaper....

I like it not having a separate "nitrox mode". If I were designing a dive computer that's what I'd do: just let it track my oxtox always and have a default of 21% and 1.6 (or less if you want to err on the safe side).

i usually do not buy first run anything but the cosmiq has my interest. I might get a puck and see how this looks in a year and demote the puck if it still looks as sexy then.

I change my Nitrox settings quite easily on my Zoop on the boat.

One Cozumel two tank dive day plus a third shore dive.
32% nitrox first deeper dive.
36% nitrox second shallower dive.
21% (air) on the shore dive.
I just leave the Zoop in Nitrox setting and change the percentage. Not to say I think the Zoop
is the end all. I love night dives and I hate the no back-light on the old Zoop model. But an IPhone
with an apt for those changes is a No Sell for me, and I have an IPhone.

you don't need the bloody iphone to change your gas mixes. you need it to change things like depth and time alarms, but all of the important functions can be changed on the computer

We have understood what the phone is for. But it is the main claim of the computer "we're a fancy connected computer".
From their own website:
The Next Innovation In Dive Computing

The COSMIQ Dive Companion from Deepblu is the hardware component of a system that allows divers to continue their diving experience after completing a dive. COSMIQ goes beyond the essential functions of a dive computer. With the click of a button, it syncs with the Deepblu Mobile App allowing divers to effortlessly create a digital dive log.

they're boasting about:
- it's connected to an app
- you can have a digital dive log.

Scroll down a bit on the site and you get...
"Wireless connectivity"

So maybe you don't need the phone, sure, but that is the manufacturer that tries and sell its computer saying binding it to a phone is a major innovation.

I dunno, boast about screen, reliability, depth, "screen organisation", open source (it's not, but could have been), the fancy bracelet, whatever, but why on earth would we care about a smartphone for diving?
If you don't want people to focus on something on your product, just don't focus on it in the first place.

ok so step back and look at the big picture.

Suunto Zoop Novo vs Deepblu COSMIQ
Suunto is $330, Cosmiq is $300
Zoop requires an $85 cable to download your dives, Cosmiq is included *yes it's ios now, but soon to be android and a web interface
So the way I see it is I save $100, get a much better screen, and it can do all of the important things on the computer interface itself. What else do you need to do on the computer other than change the gas mix once you get to the dive site? You shouldn't need to do anything else...

Hi,
I am new to nitrox and have only had the class so far. I am looking at computers and trying to decide how important multi gas abilities are for recreation only diving. I would expect to go out on dives with the same gas for every dive but sometimes bad things can happen and that's the only time I would change gas.

I am wondering if thinking about getting stuck with air or a different mix on a second dive due to tanks getting mixed up or left behind is enough of a concern to base a computer purchase on if I only expect it to occur by something beyond my control. I know that each person is resposible for their own equipment but **** happens.

I am looking at that new Deepblu computer and it states

"Multi-Gas: COSMIQ does not offer a multi-gas function. Only one type of gas may be set (oxy-
gen 21%-40%). If you are planning a multi-gas dive, DO NOT use COSMIQ as your primary
device."

I might be over thinking possibilities and should plan to just do math or skip a second dive if I'm in such a situation.

Thanks for your input
Hi frndrfoe! Looks like your original guestion is answered. It IS a nitrox computer and that meets your needs.

I had never heard of this computer until your post. Thanks for showing me something new. I could not find much technical info, most is centered on the social and connectivity aspect but my thoughts.

New computer on market may mean some first year glitches. I would really have to want it to risk it.

Doesn't have conservative settings but hey, that's just me and in recreational diving that is a fairly new thing anyway so not a deal breaker.

The screen has all the needed info and while a little cluttered seems easy to read.

It does seem geared for the new generation smartphone, facebook, social media generation and while I appreciate my iphone and love that I can wirelessly transmit my dive log to my device with my current computer, I'm not sure that feature would be the primary reason to buy a particular computer.

So not impressed by the youtube video.

But if you do decide to give it a try make sure to write up a user review.

- price is very local, a zoop novo here costs less than 250€, I can safely say that the Cosmiq will cost at least 350€ to me.
- logging dives is not a selling feature imo, it's something that should be included. And as a matter of fact, it's not, on neither. I can pretty much guarantee there will never be a Windows Phone app for Cosmiq.
- Better screen? Sure. It's also more prone to failures, especially on a first batch (AFAIK Shearwater has had issues a while ago, H&W removed a computer due to too many screen failures and are still struggling with the Sport, XDEEP is looking for or has found a new supplier). It's great when there's already 4 computers underwater with you, you don't care too much if it fails. If it's your only computer, more of a problem. (As it will also mean no diving for a few weeks)
- Depending on the type of diving you do and your diving style, you might want to be able to set those (useless) alarms depending on the site you're diving, and since that can be decided at the last moment... Arguing that "you don't need to" is quite a funny stance if you want my opinion.

I believe there's many reasons not to give a "new to the market" computer to a beginner...

It seems that a lot of people want their dive computer to connect to a computer to upload dive logs. Having it connect to your phone seems to make that a little easier allowing you to take something smaller to move your logs to.
I do wonder about the log format and their portability. If Deepblu goes away, so does their cloud and you logs.
