And it has 24 hour electricity! - hey, didn't used to be that way. It used to be turned off during the day. I think some businesses still get ice from Maya. Nothing worse than warm beer during a storm when they can't make the ice delivery.
 
Can't remember what it was like back in 2002 but it certainly did not have that many resorts and dive operators. There was nothing except sandy beach within hundred meters from Exotic! So I ate, dived and slept from the same place. Even Exotic had developed beyond recognition now.
Ditto to Alona Beach for the best or worst!!
