SO, as far as I can tell, all they are selling is an "ebook" that tells you how to buy direct from the overseas factory, NOT actually selling gear? (I missed that the first time areound, I think...)

I always look at the domain registration, and where they are hosted and go from there...

Registered at GoDaddy.com - nothng special, most of my domains are there.

WHOIS shows some interesting stuff, like all the addresses are PO Boxes, and there's only one phone number, no smoking guns yet. Domain has been registered for about a year. Only contact email is a hotmail address...

The traceroute shows that they are hosted at tierzero.net, a network connectivity, hosting and co-lo provider, looks like LA, which matches their website, and there are a few co-lo's in the area (I'm in a few myself). Tierzero seems large-ish, so if they weren't paying their bills they wouldn't still be hosted :)

DNS is coming from HOSTICA.COM, which seems to also be a medium-tier ISP.

Looking at "the Google", they have advertised (at least in the past) on myspacetv, and a lot of other places. There's some "SPAMmy looking stuff at: http://xelfos.bixgik.com/Ebook-wholesaler.htm which leads to this page of testimonials: http://www.scubawholesalesources.com/testimonials.htm

There's a testimonial from a "John Wilts - San Diego" who is a "owner/instructor at a dive school here in San Diego" but seems to not be affiliated with any retail store. I'm still rather new to the San Diego diving scene, but I'm not aware of any stand-alone dive schools in the area, except maybe the commercial diving school.

Then again, there are some like http://www.scubasandiego.com/default.htm that I had never heard of, so maybe this is a red herring...

There's no listing for any John Wilts in the San Diego north county AT&T white pages, nor at whitepages.com but that's not always a good indicator.

Their website says it is a "
List of International Manufacturers You Can Purchase Products From Directly Overseas" which includes lots of brand names, but not (I notice) Atomic Aquatics, but does include "Underwater Kinetics" which might be kind of odd because I think that at least some UK products are made in Poway (a suburb of San Diego)... http://www.scubawholesalesources.com/buydirect.htm

Now, looking at the "parent company" HIR Investments, they have the same domain info, and seem to have a raft of domains selling various "ebooks". See http://www.hirinvestments.com/oursites.htm

Some goodies are
Quick Detective.biz, which seems to be a directory of search engines and resouces, NOT a direct search engine, http://www.swissaccountsetup.com/index.html, which is selling an ebook on how to open bank accounts, in (guess where?) Switzerland.

In short, while this probably isn't an *illegal* scam, you're probably going to be buying a book full of directory infor (names addresses) for factories and other companies, none of which have agreed to sell anything direct to anyone....

Looks too good to be true, anyone willing to be the guinea pig on this one?

I will.........I'll order 2 O-rings IF the shipping is not too much.........

screw it I ordered the ebook and got this huge list that I would be happy to PM to anyone who requests it. The Ebook is hard to follow and has 55 pages of crap but all the companies overseas dont tell you specifically what products they sell. I ordered th book cause I am in the market for a butt-load of tanks and there was a specific testimonial about getting tanks for $8!! even without valves thats a great price. I'll keep everyone posted.

OMG. I just checked it out. :11: 59 bucks?

Well, I guess a good way to test it is to try from one of these overseas sellers. Could I have a copy? :D

Since I feel bad for ya, I'll even throw in 1 dollar if you send me your paypal account.

Considering that an aluminum tank is worth somewhere north of $35 as scrap, it's unlikely you could buy one new for $8.
