A very well put and cotient argument. However, I was only referring to wrecks and not salvage or goods washed ashore which do in fact fall under different laws. The UN is not the best example to quote as many of the pertinent treaties and agreements are much older and are civil in nature whereas the UN does not have the relevant jurisdiction to deal in these areas.
My point, which you succinctly stated is that there are legal issues that are involved and finders-keepers comes in when it has been proven that there are no other relevent parties with interest in the wrecks.The courts decide how the interests are split but again, this depends on which country the court is in. You have quoted mainly US courts and this does not reflect everywhere.
