Chica and I are thinking of pointing the scooters away from the island and exploring the deep reef the Freelance keeps fishing - just outside past the Kismet and Pieces.

What's that called? Big Casino reef? I've always wanted to go over and see what's doin, and with the scoots it will be a lot easier.

YES! That's the one I was referring to in my earlier posting.
Every time I venture in that area I get very apprehensive .... it is deep ... it is dark ...

You can check it out yourself online (but we made that portion low resolution being outside the park).

Can I hop up on your scooter too? Just don't let me there alone please :(

Deep and dark don't concern me. If there is something there to see, I'm into it.

Well, so long as its not below about 120 to 130-ish. We'll be in 130 singles. The plan is to hug the bottom, point due north (I think its north from there) and blast until we hit 130FSW or 25 minutes - which ever comes first, then pull a 180 and come back.

Come to dinner on Sat - we'll let you know what we find. Friday we'll be diving the 100's and shooting pics on the Valiant and within the park. Friday should be 4 dives, Sat should be 5 dives, Sunday will be 3 or 4 dives. Join us on the night dive Friday night!

Thought you all should be aware that there have been reputable sightings of makos just outside the dive park this week. Rather unusual, but 12-14 footers are reported inshore closer to the East End... usually by spearfishers (hmmm, I wonder what attracted them).

I would luv to see a Mako....if that water were just 20 degrees warmer!

No, it is NOT North.
From the top of the Pisces head out at 74.5 Magnetic. You will hit the reef head on.
Deepest part of the reef is -120ft.

Bill is a member in good standing! He just denies it. I really look forward to diving with our favorite rabbit!

Hey, I've been referred to as a dork long before there was Dork Divers! I don't know about "in good standing," Dave. I don't spend enough time on my feet.

Just saw Ken and 'Dette at the park. I can't dive because I fly out tomorrow Noon, but I'm staying on the island tonight so I can join y'all at Mr. Nings. I'm even rejecting an offer from dive buddy Andrea to come over to her place tonight and get a ride to the airport in the AM. I'd better make my boat, shuttle and plane tomorrow though!

Bill, Have fun in Florida!

Great directions, I_AM!! We got it on one!

The clear water was shear luck: 40-60 feet of visibility! There was plenty to see, even with lights off.
The tide was a low -0.2, and the last of the small pinnacles we visited were at 126fsw.

It was cool to see a relatively undisturbed area, even if we couldn't stay for long.

The attraction for the fishing boats became apparent as we were leaving: A BIG school of yellow tail blasted by overhead... followed by a smaller school of Bonito... followed by a LARGE sea lion.:D

Pretty cool :)
Thank you for the exact and accurate directions.

I was planning to dive Vets Park ... we need to take pictures of the area for the next eSite.
Ken and I are there almost every week, I_AM... shout out if you're looking for dive teams.

Also, the Wrinkles folks always leave me in the ... "dust" .... they all have double and triple tanks and have bottom time of days. For them a week-end of diving means .. "drop down Saturday morning and emerge Sunday afternoon .... just in time to take the last boat out". :D
Except for the fact that we were in single tanks... you know us too well :shakehead:. Oh, and except for the fact that we started diving in an empty park FRIDAY morning and closed it in the dark Sunday night. We left a light on. :14:.
I was racing to make my return boat Sunday night and making the second trip with all the gear.... when I cornered too quickly for the rain-dampened track and did a full-on slide into home plate... right at the feet of the CatExpress dude at the gangway. I was waiting for him to shout "SAFE!!!". No luck. But he did carry my tank. wow. Very nice guys :D.
Maybe I could ask them to take some pictures / videos of the - very very interesting - reef located at -110 ft, maybe 150 yards outside the park: due east of the North-West buoy and due north of the South East buoy.
Every time I go there (virtually) I get really scared .... maybe I should add some sharks to the area ...:shakehead:
This is so funny. Ken was delighted to tell me he had the directions to this reef. He completely neglected to tell me about the 12-14 foot Mako reports. Hmmmm... I guess I really didn't need to know! We had an excellent dive.
