I would like to invite this Diver to a one way dive trip to Barracuda Reef.

Here's what happened.

I hope he reads this!! My group was loooking at the seahorse and he swooped in and grabbed it to take pictures of it on his finger. My DM grabbed his wrist and motioned for him to put it down. He KICKED my DM in the face and shot her the bird...5 witnesses! She wrote "************" on her slate and took note of his tank to see who he was diving with. He was diving in a large group of 12 to 15. The boat on the surface confirmed it.

Watch for photos of a brown or dark orange seahorse on someone's finger in a trip report!

Yesterday was a phone call to the shop to report the guy and give a description. This morning I went to the pier with a mission to find this guy (because most of thier divers load in one place, although not all of them). I actually spoke to several divemasters and one of the the managers of the dive op. They were very responsive and are as mad as I am. The manager and I went to each divemaster at that pier this this morning describing the guy and we have a 90% positive ID on the guy, but he wasn't diving today. We think yesterday was his last day...but we've got it narrowed down to two boats because that shop had two boats at that site yesterday. I plan to follow-up with the shop owner later. By the way, I AM NOT blaming the shop. This guy was not following his group. In fact, his group was already headed up to the safety stop when all of this happened.

She handled it much nicer than I would have. I would have attempted to escort him safely to the surface, and report it immediately to his divemaster. My DM/Instructor said she was so shocked and so mad that she didn't think to anything like that. However, she did note the tank, and the size and style of the boat he got on. When she surfaced, she asked Mago which boats were there, and he identified two from this particular shop, and a few other smaller boats.

Our goal is to get him ejected form the park and to revoke his diving privleges here forever! It actually can be done once we have his full name. The marine park will take it from there

Why Is There A Next Time? You Dont Get A Pass On Things Like This!!!!

I was trying to be "PC" :) If I can help it, there WON't be a next time :)

Christi, I'm glad you are taking such an active role in the protection of the marine park that we all know and love, and the fact that you stick up for your employees that are harassed by an inconsiderate @#$.
Carrying a camera doesn't give you special privileges were marine life is concerned, and nothing gives you the right to attack a diver!! An attack like that at any depth is potentially life threatening.
Go get him....

There is no room in any ocean for that type of behavior. He needs to be landlocked permanantly.

UltimateAg:
How do you know he's a member of scubaboard?

I don't. But if he IS a Scubabord member, I don't care who he is...no one has the right to act that way.

If he is and he reads this, I dare him to deny his behavior or to justify it. I doubt he would want to expose himself...if he is, then he's a bigger jerk than we thought!
