When you joke like that it really cracks me up?

That wasn't meant to be funny. Let me clarify that...I absolutely would have escorted him safely to the surface...IF he fought me and began attacking me, I would have turned his air off as a defense for my own safety and gotten away from him. He would HAVE to go to the surface rather than come after me, which he could have safely done. He was in less than 50 feet of water. May sound harsh, but it is a rescue technique if attacked underwater. and of course would have been a last resort option.

Or as some other seasoned dive professioanls have suggested..."snip the HP hose. fizzees like crazy, but would take 40min to dump the cylinder.
no real risk to the perp, but he'll abort the dive" (thanks fugu)

I don't know if the seahorse survived, but he definitely went away.

All sorts of yayoes out there. Looks like you found a doozy. Glad no body got hurt. It might be smarter to simply let idiots like that swim away rather than confront them underwater. Just a thought.

Well, of course...and that's what she did. He kicked her in the face and she let him go.

It's easy for any of us to say what we "Would" have done, whether it is truly what we would have actually done. The reality is that I think she handled it very well by reprimanding him...but who knew he would kick her in the face?

Like I said, I would have only used drastic measures in a drastic situation...please don't read more into my comment than is intended people. I am venting here :)

Hmmmm... kicking in the face = assault in my books. Above or below water.

Thanks for your efforts and work Christi. I wish more shops and individuals would take action against irresponsible divers.

I had a run in with a diver like that years ago that walked on coral while trying to bash a grouper in the head with his flashlight while the DM for his trip did nothing. Fortunately I had my video with me and got the entire episode on tape, which I showed the shop after the dive. The shop said they couldn’t do anything about it, until I told them that if this diver was with them tomorrow I would turn the tape over to the local media with an explanation of how little the shop appreciated the reef. They refunded the guy his money and didn’t take him diving the next day.

WOW! I wish one of my divers would have had a camera or video yesterday...but no one did. I ALMOST went on the dive for fun to take photos...I knew they were planning Tormentos for the Seahorses...but Monday's are so hectic around here that I couldn't go.

This shops employees and management SEEMS to be as dedicated as I am to ID'ing this guy...but we'll see what happens. Hopefully the almighty dollar won't get in their way...but if this was one of MY divers, this would be a non-refundable situation.

How hard would it really be to id someone? I guess I dont get it - when we were diving with you, you'd know who it was almost instantly - unless a situation like with Dive Paradise (where you have 20 ppl on one boat)? Oh...how money talks....But wouldnt the dive shop also be responsible for providing the information to appropriate authorities regardless?

Cozoholic:
This jerks c-car should be yanked....

Too bad Javier wasnt there - he could have done a little kung foo under the water :007: :mfight:

LOL!!!! Ironically Becky, Javier was recuperating from a little accident he had on Sunday! Sandra was covering for him yesterday. We thought he had broken his foot, but just very bruised and swollen. I'm glad he is ok...but yeh...those who know Javier know that he is even more anal than I am about touching stuff...haha! BUT...I wonder if the jerk owuld have dared kick Javier in the face?
