New to posting on the internet although have been browsing for some time. Although certified back in 1973 and periodically active, have recently resumed scuba diving after a six year layoff while pursuing other interests. My recent reading has left me quite impressed with the advances in technical diving and the acceptance of mixed gas diving by the major certifying agencies, although I have questions about the use of Nitrox for recreational diving here in New England. I have found that the internet provides much useful information, which must be filtered out of much more useless information. It also appears that too many people forego simple courtesy in their posts, their lack of civility perhaps encouraged by the lack of accountability afforded by the medium. Then again perhaps I'm just out of touch with what is considered acceptable behavior in today's e-culture.
Regardless, I appreciate the opportunity to exchange ideas and information with other divers around the world and expect that I will be able to continue to learn much more from their experiences and perspectives.
Oh yes, I selected the monicker of "xroirat" to reflect the time I spent on the island of Roi-Namur in the Kwajalein Atoll, where we were dubbed, "Roi Rats." The social conditions were less than ideal, but the diving was fantastic.
Cheers.
