We're finally heading over to Catalina this Sat to complete the OW dives.

Please tell me Dr. Bill that things are somewhat back to normal!?

Are you taking the express and diving casino point or going out on a local boat?

My tip: Stay at a hotel that provides free transport to and from Casino point.

My suggestion is either Armstrong's or the lobster trap for dinner. Now I want to go back.

Armstrongs has been gone now for almost two years. Blue Water Grill is at that location now.

#1 dive buddy Andrea and I dove Tue and Wed of this week. Surge was present and strong on Wed in the afternoon. Supposed to be dying out now.

Thx for the update Dr. Bill.

Daughter and I are heading over on Express and I guess it's Casino Point...isn't that the dive park?

Yup! Have fun.

Yay, finally made it to Catalina yesterday to complete the remaining OW dives.

Have to say it was pretty crowded and like trying to merge onto the 405 at rush hour at times going up and down the stairs. At one point going out there were 20 people lined up going down the stairs. There were a lot classes going on.

It was a real eye opener to have to learn to manage yourself and watch out for everyone around you. There were a lot of people snorkeling and I think people just donning gear for first time to go out to the park who hadn't done CW dives.

While killing time near the boat dock before the return trip later in the day, I see none other than Dr. Bill. So it was nice to chat with him.

Here's a pic from our last dive of my daughter with the JC plaque.

Heard it was pretty crowded at the park. My son and I were coming in from three dives aboard SCUBA Luv's King Neptune dive boat when you saw me. Glad you had a good time. Could your daughter read the Jacques-Yves Cousteau plaque lettering. It has worn away quite a bit over the years.

Dr. Bill, yeah it was pretty tough to read the plaque. I could barely make out that it said Jacques Cousteau at the top. I read elsewhere some discussions about trying to restore it but it sounds like the previous restoration efforts are essentially wearing down the letters.

Regarding the crowding, I asked around to see if that was the norm on a weekend at Casino Point and Casey said that was the busiest he'd ever seen it.

It was the third weekend of the month which is often check out dive weekend for mainland dive shops.

Dove yesterday with my son and visibility was excellent. We saw four giant sea bass. My son got a little "excited" when he turned his head and saw what he initially thought was a VERY large shark swimming directly toward him from 10-15 ft away. Then his brain kicked in and he realized it was three giant sea bass swimming single file and close together. I had a similar experience with two of them in water with 3-6 ft visibility (due to bat rays feeding) a few years back so I understood.
