I'm using a USD Monitor II works great meets my needs and has matched my planned dives. Depth matches my guage I was so happy with it I found one on Ebay one day and bought it for my daughter. I had to change the battery but that was no big deal to do myself even though the LDS said it couldn't be done.

My sister has a phd in semiconductor material. From the way it sounds, all solid state products will break down. Likely has to do with operating temperature. My guess is 4 to 10 years depending on temperature.

My gut feeling is, the more you dive, the more likely you'd get a leak, and kill it from the corrosion. Most of my work computers dies out in 3 to 6 years - but they are on continously. And have a very high operating temperature (at least the CPU).
