Thanks for the input. The rescue course was on my list of things to do right afterd I finish the Nitrox course this fall. H.adn't thought about it,but now Im leaning towards a sausage with line and the rescue couse as the next purchases (lots of diving is just a given

These are the most useful items, IMO. This would be for drift diving in the Ocean. There may be other items, depending on what type of diving you are doing:

Rescue Course $150
Safety Sausage $20
Storm Whistle $15
Small Knife $15
Small Flashlight $30

A DAN membership at $99 per year is also a good idea, but just hope you never have to use it.
