I'm a huge fan of Chacos, and prior to that I was a Teva loyalist. Some swear by the little toe thong, but my pair are sans toe thong. Crocs are nice to wear in camp after a long day on the trail, but they aren't secure enough for me for more active pursuits.

I *love* my crocs....they have little rubber gripper nipples that keep your feet from sliding around in them on a wet deck, never stink, and comfortable enough to go jogging in.

And they are cheap!!

I have to go with the Tevas. They have great traction as I have hiked several miles in the rain, up and down rocks as well as Dunn's River in Jamaica in them. They are comfortable, come with an anti-bacteria coating and you can stick them in the top shelf of a dishwasher. I've done my fair share of backpacking and there are times when I would saddle my boots and put on my Tevas because they were more comfortable. You can find Tevas for cheap on www.campmor.com

I have been wearing Teva's (off and on) for almost 15 years.
A few things...

It is pronounced Teva (like seven... but without the n...)
These foot coverings are amoung the greatest ever conceived by the mind of man...

During the period of my life when I wore ONLY Tevas, it took me 18 months to wear out a pair completely. I can definitely state that this is one of the most durable shoes I have ever owned. And they are pretty freaking comfortable too...

Oh yeah, When my wife was looking for sandals, but didn't know her size, she bought several pairs from http://www.teva.com/, then returned the pairs that didn't fit. No problems on the returns.

Here in the Philippines the Havaianas sandals are very popular not only with divers but teens and yuppies as well who wear them with casually to the mall or the restaurant.

Are these popular in the warm states in the US as well?

Havainas are super comfortable and are very popular in Brazil, they are also very cheap. Cool styles.

Ditto! The Z tan is cool too. That's where the model name came from.

They will never loosen up because the stap system can always be snugged.

For anyone considering Chaco's, REI-Outlet.com has them on sale for $30 right now, in both men's and women's models.
