In Key Largo, yes. Not everywhere in the world, of course.

Well, as a newly minted diver, my first boat dive was in Australia. I found the crew did not expect to be tipped.

You might consider adding a small save-a-dive kit, which in your case may be as simple as an extra fin strap and an extra mask strap (but probably not needed if your equipment is new). Also, recommend you consider taking bonine or similar motion sickness pills about an hour before getting on the dive boat. If you wait until you feel sick, taking the pills is not going to help you much.
 
I would bring with me.........a rested mind and body. :D
