Don't go cutting anything off. The chest strap may be needed with whatever type of harness you got. If you have a one piece Hog style harness it should not be required.

Oh yeah, since I'll be getting rid of the chest strap that will free up a little space to hang my retractor.

I'm not qualified to tell someone if they're stepping in do-do.

Why don't you just hang your retractor from yer ear? (Kidding) With the swivelly rings, you might actually need the chest strap.........extrapolate backwards.

Keep the chest strap ... dive the harness a few times. If it's easily removable, then take it off and dive the harness a few more times. Decide which way you prefer ... and dive it that way.

I started out with a Dive Rite TransPlate system (still use it on tropical trips, as it has an AL backplate). The chest strap pulls the shoulder straps in a little closer on your shoulders. Some people prefer that, some don't.

Try it a few dives each way and make up your own mind ... the Deluxe harness you got isn't strictly Hog anyway, so don't worry about what anybody else thinks ...

Yep. The pivot rings make the harness straps lay flat anainst my ribcage.
