Hello-

Would love any advice from Divers in this area as to recemmended places for Diver certification. Have heard "Go to Malaysia"and "Stay in Singapore" but no one has offered information on specific places, etc. My husband and I have never been diving (Snuba in Hawaii just doesn't count!) so we need to start from scratch.

Thanks in advance!

Aloha! You'll like it here, this is the most informative place to go for SCUBA on the internet. Whether you want info, humor, or spirited debate, (or sometimes all three at once!), this is the place!

Oh, and when you fill out your profile, flex those humor muscles!

Hello and welcome to the board.
As regards diving in Singapore, like all places on the planet, there are some good schools and some not so good schools. Most people use a school in Singapore and then go with them to Tioman or Aur for the weekend to do their dives

Of those that I'd rate highly in terms of instruction try:

Spencer Lewis at Waterworld Asia on the East Coast http://www.waterworld-asia.com/usMain.htm (Very patient and dedicated instructor)

Stephen Beng at SeaHounds on Beach road http://www.seahounds.com

Vincent dive in Bishan http://www.vincentdive.com/index2.htm (owners of White Manata)

These may charge you a little more than some of the others but you'll be a better diver if you dive with them, more comfortable in the water and thus enjoy your dives better

Whichever you pick, have fun and welcome to the diving in the region

Welcome! If you are around Malaysia Kuala Lumpur area, there is a place that you can get certified at a lake here in KL. No need to spend the extra on island. For more info, call
Aaron Kwok at +6019-666-5444. He is a very patient and dedicated instructor.

All the best.
