I've read this entire series of questions and answers, and now have one of my own.

What the hell is "overadicification of the body"?

Since much of my diving is solo, I almost always carry a 13 cf. pony bottle when I dive deeper than 40-50 ft. For me it serves as my buddy on such dives. In shallower depths I can surface safely in an emergency. At 90-100 ft it would be impossible without risking embolism or the bends.

Even when I dive with a buddy I may carry it depending on where we are diving. Most of my buddies are excellent divers, but are also U/W photographers or videographers and we may get too absorbed in our subjects.

In more than 40 years of diving I have "only" had two situations of concern- one in 1969 (before we used gauges, octopuses and the like) when both of us took "full" tanks down to 90 ft and found they were both nearly empty, one in 2001 when the first stage on a rental blew in Thailand (very unusual). Having a pony on either dive would have solved the problem.
