Just for a laugh I thought I would post some of the thread between myself and a Suunto *cough* support person. I think we have a clear example of what happens when you export support to offshore sources.

Dear Sir,
We are sorry to hear that you haven't been satisfied with our service.
However, we are glad that you have solved your problem and can now export and
re-import your files.

That method does not work. Version 2.1.5 build 111 only exports as .sde
format. You also do not address how to re-import the Excel files to SDM as .
sde files which is a format that Excel cannot write.
You know what is really funny? I solved the problem on my own. What is even
funnier is I am not going to tell you how. I think that anyone who is working
at a help desk ought to be doing a better job than this thread shows. Perhaps
even being familiar with the different program builds and versions would help.
Suunto support is a complete joke.

Dear Sir,
1. To export a dive log:
Select the log you want to export and click File and Export. The Export dive
logs window opens.
Select either Export Logs to Dive Log 7 Standard file or Export Logs to the
Microsoft Excel File and click Next.
Click Browse, browse to the location where you want to save the file and change
the file name if necessary. Click Save.
Click Finish to export the file.
2. When you re-import those files back to SDM they must be in .sde format.

OK this is starting to get really annoying now. I am trying to do something
very simple and the help files appear to be incorrect! I spent more money on
my cobra than on my PC and windows XP, I expect the software to work.
The SDM software claims to let you export data in .csv format which can readily
be imported into excel or any other program for that matter. You recently told
me that SDM exports in .sde format. The attachments I have added to this
thread show very clearly the results of opening an sde file with Excel or
Notepad - garbage.
I need step by step instructions (apparently the help files are incorrect, if
they were correct I would have no problem exporting .csv data) to:
1. Allow me to export dive log files in an Excel readable format
2. A method to allow me to re-import those files to SDM once I have made
manual changes that the software will not allow me to make directly.
Thank you

Dear Sir,
You don't need to import the sde files to Excel, you can just open them in the
software. If you wish, you can also open them in NotePad.

Can you please tell me how to have Excel import the SDM 2.1.5 .sde files? I
have a recent version of Excel and it is not able to import this format. I
suspect this is because SDM does not export data in .csv format (despite what
the help files claim). What I am trying to do is very simple and I am a very
experienced computer user...why is everything so difficult in SDM? It's not a
microsoft product!

Dear Sir,
The possibility to change the order of dives in your logbook will maybe be
added to some future version of the Dive Manager software.
The exported files are always in .sde format which can be accessed with Excel.
These files can also be imported back to Dive Manager.

Hi Maria,
Can you please give me some insight into why the order of the logs cannot be
changed? Surely the data is stored in some kind of database which ought to be
accessible for me to make manual changes to? I tried to export my dive logs as
excel files, but for some reason DM 2.1.5 does not give me the option of
chosing .csv files as an export format! *If* I can get the files to export as .
csv format (can you please suggest what me be wrong with what I am doing - I am
following the help file) will I be able to adjust everything and then re-
import?
Thanks!
Steve

Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting Suunto.
Unfortunately you cannot change the number of dives in the SDM software. The
dives are always numbered in the order they are imported to the software.
However, if you wish to see the dives in correct order, sort them by date.
We are sorry for the inconvenicne this may cause you.

Hi!
I am having some problems with my new Dive Manager 2.1.5 software.
1. I was able to import all my old log files without any issues. They are now
numbered 1-47.
2. I then downloaded from my Cobra and the dives appeared in the "All Dives"
folder, but were not numbered sequentially (also the month and day have been
set to European style - I may have done this)
3. I have entered some dives manually. I have managed to do this (although
the software requires dive time to be entered in seconds and depth in meters -
even though I am set to imperial units). However, the software does not update
the dive numbers. Is there any way to force DM to add numbers to the dives?
Also is it possible to force the dive count to start at say 37 (my dives prior
to using the Cobra).
I have attached my dive logbook in the hopes that you can see the problem
better than my explanation.
Many thanks for your time and help.
Steve
