What is the difference between the tanks used in OZ and the tanks used in the USA?

The owner of the LDS I went to discussed this with me last month. He said that the Luxfer tanks made for Australia are made to a slightly different standard than those for the US market. He said that since Aussie tanks are required to undergo hydro every year, instead of every 5, then their built tougher. Something about the coefficient of expansion neing smaller than a US tank...

Can someone from down under verify this? :D

Correct, the dive industry in Australia won't fill tanks unless they have an annual hydro inspection. This isn't actually law, and having my own compressor, I tend to hydro mine less regularly. I also have a pair of the old PST HP 80's - with a 7/8" neck thread. Have never had any trouble getting them tested here. Don't know about the nevew PST tanks though. Most steel tanks that I have seen on the Australian market are either 230 bar fabers, or old lp 72s.

yep - hydro every year and technically you are suppose to show your c-card every time you get a fill (technically that is)
