So I have seen a few responses to posts listed as a troll, also a few of the groups are "No troll areas". But what does it mean?

I don't think I "troll" but I don't know without knowing what it is.

Thanks,

John
A troll is a post whose objective is simply to get people to rise to the bait... to elicit noise, useless junk or pointless argument on the internet.
For example, your post asking what a Troll is... is a pretty good troll.
And all of us who have answered have taken the bait!
Rick :D

Taking the bait knowingly is one thing, just don't drink the koolaid.:D

Guys, it's a mythical creature out of Lord Of The Rings!!!

Cave trolls?

You know...I got a pretty good chuckle out of this response. I really only expected one or two responses. But you folks have really stepped up to the plate and swung away.

Thanks for the info.

John

p.s. as a longstanding member of a few other boards this is the first I have heard of trolls.

I'll add that trolls are also implicitly people who barge in on forums having never been there before, who usually don't know anything about the subject being discussed, who don't know or care to know any of the "regulars", who pay little attention to what others are saying, and often disappear once they've had their little laugh, never to return again. They get a kick out of chaos. Some make a big show about having hurt feelings when everyone gangs up on them, or, conversely, when everyone ignores them. They're often losers.

Hope that helps some.

cheers
