Cant see recreational divers being used at all. ROV and comm divers if in water (which I think it is but hey, who knows?) due to depth of the waters in the area. Unless it is an Air Ethiopia situation where divers were in the water and did go and assist as in the case of the Hijacked air Ethiopia plane in the Comores - Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think it needs to be found before anyone can do anything.

they now say that it turned and flew another 4-5 hours after losing contact (towards the indian ocean). they say all radar/tracking systems(?) were manually turned off/unplugged except one thing that is well hidden and few know about, which continued to give off a ping, indicating the flight turned and went west for a ways.

There surely could be some local people there who could assist in the search. Looking above and below the water line under while merely needing a PADI open water certification and some basic gear.

Volunteers will be required to have the PADI Distinctive Specialty tab sewn on their dive jacket.

If it is found and if it is in diving depths then divers may well be used.

However, they will be military or civilian commercial divers and not PODs or similar.

How is this new search going to affect our knowledge of the ocean floor in that area? Is it mapped already and they are looking for anomlies or is this the first time side scan sonar has been used in this part of the ocean?

Highly doubtful
