ICY ICE:
Cool, I just wanted to be sure I didn't misunderstand.

ICY ICE:
Don't forget about the fixed rotation: San Diego, Orange, Los angeles, Ventura couties in a specific order.
While you were away from the board, we had a discussion about a fixed rotation of locations here:

http://www.scubaboard.com/t82561-.html

This is the bottom line on what we came up with:

January - San Diego County
February - Orange County
March - Catalina Island
April - Los Angeles/Ventura County (between Palos Verdes and Leo Carrillo)
May - Santa Barbara County
May - Decide whether to go to San Luis Obispo (SLO), start again in San Diego, or insert a boat dive.

So, we are now trying the rotation on for size and in May we will revisit the topic and decide what we want to do in June. Once we decide that a process is working well for us we can plan for a longer term. That's why I wanted to bring up a fixed date now. We were just about to begin deciding when to have our March Wrinkles Dive on Catalina Island.

Hope this helps as a quick catch up for this.

HBDiveGirl:
Hi Christian,
I would vote for a fixed sched., although I will miss the March event if it's on a Saturday, as I'll be in a seminar in San Diego. Sunday would work, though!
I would vote for 3 out of 4 Saturdays, with a Sunday thrown in a few times a year because my husband really likes you all and he teaches Every Saturday but is usually free on Sundays and would love to be able to hang with the BBQ crew a few times a year.
Maybe this would make sense. (I'm just going to think out loud here.)

Assuming that in June we decide to have a boat dive, that would be 6 fixed locations. We could go 3 months of Saturdays and then have a Sunday Dive on the 4th month. Then we could go 2 months of Saturdays and have a Sunday Dive on the 3rd month.

If we kept repeating the pattern, I believe that we would wind up rotating Sundays evenly thoughout the different locations and make 25% of the dives on Sundays for one year and then 33% of the dives for the next. This would go up and down every other year.

I thought that out kind of quickly, so maybe someone else can check my math, but I just wanted to get the concept across.

Maybe someone can come up with a more simple way of doing this that rotates the Sundays to all locations and gives you enough Sundays per year to make it "fair".

Not knowing what day of the weekend we'll be diving can conflict with other family schedules.

Not to mention that the day after your too tired to do anything...losing an extra day that week.

I stand with my earlier post. "THIRD SUNDAY - EVERY MONTH"

I believe thier will be a higher turn out if we have a preset diving day.

Thoughts please.

I personally like Saturdays. That way, if the event takes place other than Orange County for me, I can take the day off on Friday and make it a three day weekend. Even if I had to work on a Saturday, I would request it off so that I could make the event, knowing the preset schedule ahead of time. Maybe those that work on Saturday could do the same. Another thought is too, those that are working, could always join us later in the day for the afternoon and night time activities. Just a thought. I would be more than willing to lead some OC night dives.

I agree, which is why I suggest rotating on a "known" schedule.

I'm interested in seeing how everyone else feels about this one. It should be interesting to follow this thread over the next week.

Often times a new idea will surface that is better than any of the original notions that we had. That's what makes a board like this so great!

Either Saturday or Sunday works for me. I like the idea of Saturdays with a Sunday thrown in for those that can't do Saturdays.

Christian, I like your thoughts on rotating the Sunday dives in so that others could make it. I hope that Robert and Stacy see this post so we can get their thoughts in. If we dive on Sunday, I'm going to have to take off work (I work most Sunday afternoons).

Christian, the Saterday/Sunday thing will just add confusion. I can't even remember my wife's birthday, let alone Sat/Sun for the wrinkles dive.......Just pick one.

I would prefer Saterday (Friday nights partying in San Diego is not good), but Sunday is good ONLY cause I can drive to remote locations on Saterday, depending where it is. If it's on Saterday, I have to leave on Friday, makes no sense. Sure, people far away from the locations may not make the Sunday night boosup, but they can wait till the rotation get to their town. If the Wrinkles dive is on Saterday for Catalina, it's good too, cause we can get there Friday night (two night minimum) and have a good party Saterday night.........So, I guess my final answer is every third Saterday fix rotation.

I try to use my vacation time for travelling.

Saturdays are what everyone seems to want, so if there are dives I want to join you guys on I can take the day off on those days. I dive every other Sunday, so I go regardless of wether or not you guys are doing your thing. I am planning on going to Catalina for the March dive (I've been over there too many times without being able to dive Casino Point,) so I am waiting for the date so I can request it off.But that is pretty much the limit of my travel. I stick to the OC unless I find it worthwhile and the wife allows me out of my area code!
The first part of the year I have a ton of vacation time, but towards the end I seem to run out for some strange reason
So do your thing and I will see you guys on the beach some other times, I guess.
