Bob, I would go with the wrist for the reasons already mentioned, and given my hands are usually full of camera equipment, the choice is even easier.

Yup. This alone is a great reason to get a wrist computer. Left hand gives you control while the right gives. easy access to depth and ascent rate.

I've had this conversation with friends who use consoles many times and the thing that frustrates me is that they bundle together two different arguments: 1) I prefer a console due to my own idiosyncracies, and 2) I prefer a console due to its functional characteristics (i.e. how it performs while diving.
IMHO, arguments of the #1 are either trivial or actually self-defeating. E.g. a friend insists that he dives a console because he is too lazy to put on individual instruments as I do (GI computer on right wrist, compass on left, recently added SPG on left-hip D-ring). Obviously, this has nothing to do with diving; it's a legitimate personal reason, but not the kind of generalizable principle you can give as advice to others.
On the other hand, if you only consider arguments of the #2 variety, wrist mount is just better. Just look at the number of arguments presented above as to why wrist mount DIVES better compared to all the arguments presented in favor of consoles.

I'm with Larry, my VT Pro has my compass mounted to it, all on a retractor on the chest D ring. (Wireless, hoseless console.)
When you hold it in front of you, you have it all in one spot.
