But what if a Dive Shop purchases an X-1. and it sits on their shelf for 6 months. Diver A then buys it from the shop. Six months later he sells it to Diver B. Next day the computer fails to work. Diver B is SOL as computer is out of warranty.

The question was about the battery replacement. It might cost you $100, not a big deal IMO.
