One might note that it seems most of the people in this thread had a reason for their deep dives, something to see or do that was not avaiable eleswhere or unique--it was not just so as to brag about going deep.

123' for a specific purpose ... diving the wreck of the SS Wisconsin in Lake Michigan. I don't dive any deeper than I have to in order to accomplish my dive objective, which is typically to see something I want to see such as a wreck, reef or wall.

Me too, what flavor are we having??

Extra butter, but it's makin me thirsty. Here's somethin to wash it down...

My record so far is 126 feet. I would like to go deeper, but first I have to do a specialty course on Nitrox.

a course on nitrox would be good, if the instructor you are thinking of taking the class with told you that with nitrox cert you can go deeper that than 130 run far far away.

Maybe he's talking about doing gas-switch extended no-stop dives?

There is a sinkhole off the panhandle of Florida. It sometimes has a weak freshwater flow.

FWIW, I've been travelling a lot down to Destin, so if its in that neighborhood, I'd be someone interested in it. I've not been particularly thrilled with the conditions in that area, so a sinkhole might be a bit more photogenic (given a good day for lighting).

Disclaimer, I was much younger...It was a risk I could not and would not take now or even consider doing twice and should not have done it once... It was fall of 79

I similarly don't see much of the point of these "deepest" contests, as they invariably tell a tale of someone who's pushing deeper than their experience usually deems wise.

As such, I'll refrain from mentioning my max depth, but make my point of becoming a better diver by no longer trying for essentially meaningless 'records': my deepest dive was done back in 1994.

I'm new to this board. The deepest I've gone is 90 feet. This coming weekend, my husband and I are going diving to 100+ feet and I'm nervous about it.

131 feet....I try to stay within limits now so only stayed there 4 minutes....but back when I first got certified PADI taught decompression diving....not extended of course or anything like the tech organizations teach now....but doing deeper, longer, decompression dives was common and I have plenty of them in my logbook. Those final 10' stops were a pain to hold....

Using scuba gear I have been to 122 feet to see the flight deck of the Oriskany and 110 feet to the Superior Producer. Without scuba gear I have been to 1900 feet...in a submarine.
