No issues - outbound they will usually ask about where you ae going.

Inbound they see hundreds of them!

may get your bag searched once in a while but not a problem.

There was some concern about liquid filled compasses when the rules first came out, but it never seemed to be a problem in reality.

I've carried my regs on and put them in a checked bag. Gets searched either way. Out of PVD you have to have your checked bags scanned as well before going to the gate. I've had the bag searched each time because the xray can't see through my first stage. Same would happen if I carry on.

Solution - if you're carrying it on, take regs out of whatever bag and put them in the tray as you would a laptop. That way, they won't have to search your bag and no ones time is wasted. I also do this with my lead weight for my underwater camera. If you know it is going red flag your bag for a search, take it out.:)

I know it's totally allowed under TSA rules, but have people had any problems with TSA when carrying on a reg? I will be doing this for the first time in a couple of weeks, and want to know whether I need to be prepared (print outs from the TSA site, etc.), or if I don't need to stress it at all?

Computers and Regs are always in my Carry On
Never had a problem

I always carry on my regs , computers, masks, and 2 pony tanks (13 and 19).
Only problem I have had was coming back to the US from Mexico. In Mexico they couldn't decide if my pony tanks could go as carry on or had to be checked.
They often ask where I am going. This past January I was headed to Arizona to visit my mom. They asked where I was headed," I said Phoenix Az.", The TSA guy then said "diving in Phoenix, check his bags", smiled and had a young girl check my gear.
He had her check my bag because she had no idea of what scuba gear looked like. He then thanked me for my time, and wished my safe diving.

My regs and can light often get an extra look, but the one thing I find most helpful is to announce to the TSA agents that you have scuba gear just as you're putting your bags through the machine. Has made everything much faster.

I was coming back into the country via LAX once, and they pulled me aside to check my bag. They asked what I had in there with hoses?

I was sooooooo out of it, I said "I dunno, let's have a look"

Well, low and behold, it was my reg. The security person started laughing and telling me the other person thought it was some sort of hookah pipe.

I was laughing, but then the lady wanted to talk scuba diving, so I had to listen to the old bag talk about how her Grandpa in Cuba used to "kill those dirty sharks by hand....." Oh brother.

Then I went on to catch my flight.

My wife and I fly to Fort Lauderdale from MacArthur Airport on Long Island when going to the Keys. Leaving FL for the return flight, there has never been a problem (8 trips). When departing MacArthur, on the other hand, I've had our carry-on bag with 2 regs, a prescription mask, a camera, 2 pr. binoculars and miscellaneous lights hand inspected 50% of the time. Last time was the most interesting because the limits on carry-on fluid volumes had recently gone into effect and we had forgotten to put our sunscreen in the checked luggage. Doh! I remembered as the TSA official started to unzip the carry-on bag, but she was so intent on the weird metal stuff not recognized by the x-ray screen viewer that she picked up the two bottles of sunscreen lying in clear sight right on top of everything, held them in one hand, while rummaging around in the bag with the other, then put everything back, zipped up the bag and gave it to me saying, "Thanks for your patience. Have a good trip."

I carry on everything I need to dive but lead and tanks, including a full size SS backplate and the tools I carry for maintenance and repairs. They look at it a little funny if they are new..

they took my crescent wrench out and measured it once. When I asked they said there is a 6" limit on crescent wrench's...
