Nice haul, Tooth!

Has anyone dove around where they laid the new artificial reef ? I was wondering if it may have messed up the shore diving. My son and I were out there when they were putting it in so we tried to stay away.

Yepper, last Saturday. It only sits in about 17 ft of water. I was surprised to find it so shallow. As a matter of fact, I almost ran into it on the way back in. Most of the bottom is covered with silt. Mote seems to think it may be because of the change in current patterns caused by the reef. The reef itself is interesting. It's like 6 ft square blocks randomly scattered. There isn't a whole lot of life on it yet but I did see a very nice size Gag Grouper. It will be interesting to watch it develop.

Sounds Like We Need To Set Up A Dive . 5 Ft Is Great Vis . I Am Still In Tennessee Until Late Sat Nite When I Come Back . So I Am So Ready To Get My Tooth Grove On . Most Will Be In Ginnie This FOLLOWING Weekend ??? I Am Game To Teeth Hunt Over Ginnie

I went this morning around 10 AM. Vis was about 10 feet and water was a warm 69 degrees. Out by the clay beds (depth 18-22 feet) the bottom is mostly covered with about 4 inches of fine silt. Almost any movement stirs it up. I have not seen this before and I try to dive here at least every month. I'm guessing it's fallout from the new reef, correct me if I am wrong. It really sucks trying to find anything through it. This was at Alahambra straight out from the culvert pipe.

Well seeing how I have lost both of my dive buddies to college, how many of you do solo dives at venice ?

I do.

I do and plan it that way.
Almost everyone ends up that way unless tethered together. The limited vis and looking for teeth are a sure way to get separated quickly.
When I have taken a buddy I spend more time watching them than looking for teeth.
