Dan, in the near future (if you have no objections) I may try to see if I can't get this transcoded into a more neutral video/audio format like H.264 or at least something more Mac friendly like QuickTime.

Go ahead. The whole idea was to get this out.

REgards,
Dan

.this same demeanor was even the case when I got MHK to fly down for a DIR demo, and at the time, MHK was the most outspoken and most listened to of the "stroke persuasion", that had ever been :)

I remember that event and I remember Kane's post on rec.scuba after he got back. That's what made me think that maybe there was something to DIR other than George and I should give it a try.

Thanks for that!!

Hi Floater, any chance that you can post those videos up for download so the rest of us can take a look :D

Would be much appreciated!

The DIR1 video I have is a 58MB, 23 minute, low-resolution asx-file (works on my VLC). The DIR2 audio consists of two mp3-files that are 7MB and 6MB mp3, respectively, totaling about 1h30min. I'd be happy to upload them, if you know of a site that could host. They may already be available somewhere on the internet since that's how I originally got them.

I don't know who owns the DIRIII copyright, but its been available on the net for a long time and you can't buy it anywhere so it doesn't impact anyone's revenue stream, and I'm assuming that Dan knows the right people to get permission for it if necessary.

The DIR2004 video is clearly copyrighted by GUE and they sell it on the website, so I can do the math and figure out that links to ripped copies of that are bad (so please don't post those).

I watched the first 45 minutes. It is amazingly good for a couple of guys BS's in a garage as air traffic and beeping cars hardly faze them. The length of some of the shots was amazing.

I was cool to hear that rec divers don't need a long hose! But I have to admit, the criticism of pony bottles looked kinda weak to me.

I just got back from a dive with a guy who uses a double inflation, 100 lb lift, OMS bungi wing with double steel tanks and a thin wet suit in the ocean. I'm glad he survived.

Rec divers can do whatever they want. This is about DIR rec divers, which is opt-in. OBTW, there has been some rethinking of that particular point since they made that video and the system has evolved. Not that it applies to you.

Again, you guys can do whatever you want, nobody cares, it just isn't DIR. Honestly, what does it take for you to get that message?

Please don't troll up an otherwise useful post.

Thanks, to those of you who answered my question on the audio. My reason for asking, if it wasn't clear, is because I'm deaf. :)

Dan, do you know if the audio was scripted or just recorded on the fly? I guess what I'm trying to get at is, does there happen to be a written transcript available?

I rely on the internet to learn about DIR, so I am interested to hear what else is no longer correct in that video.

Sorry, there was no script. Maybe one of the voice to text software systems could do a good job....hell, the phone messaging service I use, www.spinvox.com does great voice to text( email), and that is just for cell phones!

Dan
