This is true too. Do the all MoDs not give a courtesy pm to the poor unfortunate first posters?

It depends. Sometimes by the time something gets reported the thread has spun so out of control that we just whack the whole last part of the thread and leave a modpost saying not to take it personally. If only one post is deleted, we try to inform both the person who got "modded" and the person who reported it (speaking for myself I know that I personally always do this ... but I'm not 100% that all mods do)

And far too may staffers that react emotionally rather than rationally.

I thought we were past that.... :D

I know. It's not acceptable but mod's are people too. Where work is being done mistakes are being made. not every decision is well thought through, rational or even fair.

A bit of a hijack: Since the mods are on SB, oh what seems continuously, and I believe can become biased to certain posters, is there a mandatory vacation period for them to "decompress" on SB issues?

And why is it that some MODS take the time to edit a post to maintain the value add integrity of the post rather than just delete? And, if the thread had actually been cleaned, then why were the rest of the off topic posts left in tact yet mine were removed?

I'll take a stab at that.

** this is a general statement, not referencing the posts in question because I didnt see them **

It likely comes down to a time issue. When things start to escalate, staff sees the need to cut it off as quickly as possible. The first Mod to respond may not have time to use surgical precision to trim all the posts, so an axe is used instead. In some instances, the mere disappearance of a post may serve as sufficient warning to someone that they're crossing a line. Others need to be beat over the head with the fact.

Yes that is actually possible and I had considered that. If it was just my posts that got deleted, then I would expect that I would get a PM as I sometimes do telling that they were deleted. In this case, the MODS post claimed that several posts were deleted as off-topic (I am paraphrasing from memory here)....well let's just say mine was less off topic than many others. So, if the thread had been "scrubbed" then it was obviously inconsistent TOS enforcement.

Ok wise guys. You have our complete attention. How do you think we *should* be doing things differently?

Since I'm unfamilair with all the intricacies of the VB software I don't know if this is a viable idea but I have one suggestion. Is it possible to set up an automatic notification system so that when a Mod selects a post to be deleted that it sends a PM to the poster saying "Your post has been deleted by Moderator XXXX?" Perhaps with a box for additional comments?

Then if the poster wants clarification, they know which mod to PM?

That's not entirely true. There was a modpost left in the thread. Are you saying taht's not good enough?

R..

That actually is what I am saying. Thanks for asking. How am I supposed to know what happened or what was done wrong to prevent it next time. You are the first person to tell me that in this case, I was not reported. I really do not care if it was my post that was reported or not, but I do care that nobody that was deleted has any clue why and will therefore contue doing the same old thing. A single MOD post saying "Off Topic" does not indicate what exactly the problem was when I know for fact mine was on topic.

So, think of it this way. You are trying to teach your dog right from wrong. But when they do something wrong (maybe bark too much), you wait until the next day and reprimand them. I say next day because it was 12+ hours from when I left SB to when I returned to see posts deleted. But you do not tell them why you reprimanded them. How do you expect that they will learn right from wrong?

I agree with this statement 100% however when a certain staffer shows a propensity toward emotional and power trippy actions and reactions as well as regularly makes biased decisions it's time to re evaluate their worth to the board. Food for thought.

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

This is currently not a feature in vBulletin. AFAIK, there's no such functionality available as third-party software. Which means that it would have to be built as custom development.

There isn't. It's not a bad idea though. We do have some members who generate a lot of reports. Sometimes we trade them off. We rotate who deals with ONESPEED, for example....

(just kidding, we really don't do this :D)

But we probably should.... LOL :)
