Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone can give me a recommendation of a hotel with dive shop attached in Cozumel... I own all of my own equipment and would be weary of leaving it at a shop down the way and being picked up in the morning and would not really be happy taking it each night either.... any suggestions?

Thanks!

Most places will lock it up overnight, but is that what you're asking or are you looking for a shop that sells and services?

Blue Angel and many other places are perfect for just that - convenience! Vacation is for being lazy and enjoying your time and BA as many others are set up for easy diving.

Not sure on the others as I only stay with Blue Angel, but their gear locker is secured and the is also an overnight security person. I just hang mine over the railing on the baqlcony and have never had a problem in 10 years...plus its at most 4 flights of stairs and 25 yards to the boat.

Do I understand correctly that you want to just walk away from your gear on the boat and not deal with it at all, but you want your gear to stay at the same place you are staying? I don't know of an op like that.

Blue Angel Divers, for example, is an excellent on-site op at the Blue Angel resort, but you'll have to hump your own gear on and off the boat, and that's the way that all the on-site ops that I know of are. There are "boutique" dive ops that will handle your gear so that you don't have to deal with it at all (and you'll pay extra for that service), but I don't know of any that are hotel-based that do that.

:eek:fftopic: Slightly off topic here, but what exactly do the boatmen and DM's do in COZ?
In California, you do it all and the DM watches from the boat, but in the Philippines the boatmen "hump the gear" back and forth, assist you on & off, rinse and hang your stuff. The DM's check your stuff out, change out your tanks between dives and are in the water with you. Tips vary alot as well. The general consensus in COZ is $5 per tank, and roughly the same for California, but the PI is maybe $1 or some shoes or a small gift for the boatmens or DM's kids.

LEP, I would take a serious look at Blue angel.... do a search.

In all my diving there, the dm is the "leader" of the dive. He goes in last and comes out last and guides you through the dives. The boat Captain is the magic eyes that follow the bubbles and most times pick you up right when you sirface. He and the DM setup your gear (if you want them to - I dont and they still get a good tip!!), between dives they swap out your tank with a full one, help you out of the water (in some instances as you strip gear in the water). Help you on and off the boat and at Blue Angel....set your gear on the dock. The rest is up to you (and probably should be if you care at all for your gear-just my opinion)

Hi Lep! If your looking for luxury, well dont read any further. If you want a cool dive experience and great fun with the people that run the show well contact Opal at Scubamaucozumel.com. You can leave your gear on the boat and walk away, the stuff will be put back when you dive next. Opal does not charge extra for that. It is expected to tip the man that does all that work for our lazy a$$e$. I sometimes get them to haul my gear but for the most I schlep it to the storage across the road. Two hundred feet. Also Villa Blanca hotel is right there. Get her to book a room with a balcony. She gets killer deals for her divers. The price for diving is great also. Dive your gas, and she tries to make sure experienced goes with experienced. Or shall I say those that say they are. grin. have fun, when are you going? kevin

I'm not clear on your question either. Many hotels have on-site dive shops and if you dive their's you usually get the option of a gear locker - byo lock. Or take it to your room and hang it on the balcony at Blue Angle, Casa del Mar, and others - bring it in at night if you wish. Some higher priced operators will rinse, store, deliver and set up for you.

Aside from "Some higher priced operators will rinse, store, deliver and set up for you," generally yoiu carry your gear to the dock, they assist with transferring it & you safely aboard, and varying degrees of assistance from there. Some may offer to do your weights, but I like to. On small boats, it is common for the DM to mount your BC & Reg onto your tank at the back then bring it to you, but don't get in a rush or complacent there; up to you to make sure it's right.

Cozumel Palace is on the higher end of the $ scale but quite nice and all inclusive. My gf and I love it and will definitely stay there next time unless I can convince her that she does not really need the spa in the room floor (which is, I admit, really nice). If I can do that, we'll go to SCC.

Aqua Safari has a shop in the hotel and a pier for pickup. You can store your gear in a locker (locked of course) at the dive shop if you want, or carry it upstairs and hang it to dry on patio of your room. They have rinse stations as well right next to the dive shop.
