Well I am a grown up.
Really. This thread has more attitude and drama than I get from my six year-old. If you've made up your mind to to cancel your trip, then cancel it. What good is getting our approval (or not) going to accomplish?

I think the attitude is coming from the old timers here my friend and if you have nothing to contribute then why are you flaming and causing more drama? Seems a little hypocritical to me.

The question was simple - I was asking people on a "Bay Islands" forum who are familiar with the Bay Islands what they would do in a similar position and over and over again people keep telling me that I have canceled and I haven't as yet - 80% there - but I haven't - yet - so I have wiggle room - if convinced it is safe.

And I think you can glean from my tone that I am really not in the slightest bit interested in *getting approval* from you (plural).

That's news to me. Where exactly did you get that info?

I'm with you...thought I was following this thing pretty closely, but I must have missed that one! :rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:

From the news
Associated Foreign Press
CNN
Reuters

He has announced he will take back the country by force if necessary and speculation was that he would be aided by the Nicaraguan Army.

If your so adament that YOU DID NOT CANCEL, then why did you even mention your negotiations for a refund? Are you needing someone to cuddle you and hold your hand and tell you it will be alright? Man up and make your own decision. There are already dozens of posts on here saying that to date everything has been fine in the Islands.

If you don't want to go, then don't go.

The political situation in Utila has nothing to do with mainland Honduras.

I have a group of divers headed to Roatan on Saturday and the only thing that sucks is that I can't go until the following Saturday.

When you're on Utila, I doubt you'll have any idea what's happening anywhere off the island. It's that kind of place.

You don't have anything to worry about. Go to Utila and enjoy yourself.

Its very naive to say that the political situation on mainland Honduras doesn't affect the islands.

If a more serious coup situation arises - for example with Zalayas return this weekend all sorts of things can happen - airports can shut down - foreign and domestic airlines can stop flights - major investors can remove their wealth from the banks resulting in the shutting down of banks - supplies can be affected including food and fuel.

ISLENA (TACA airlines subsidiary) has already shut down once in the last month and that wasnt even anything to do with the 'coup'

It's very myopic to think that it is all happening *over there*

An escalation of the political situation could be truly disastrous for the islands and it isn't completely out of the question. Hotels are reporting an 80% cancellation and wealthy investors are withdrawing assets out of the region.
