not much, deco bottles on my left side and a couple reels on my right hip. If I have to pull my wetnotes out of my pocket I will clip them off on my right shoulder

Right chest: sheers.
Right Hip: camera on a retractor.
Left front: console on retractor.
Left rear: SMB/spool.
I use an AIR2, so there's no octo. Whistle is on the inflator hose.
Knife attached to the left side weight pocket.

I attach my SPG to the left hip D-ring, my octopus to the right D-ring and my whistle to the chest D-ring.

I have 5 or 4 d-rings.

Right shoulder: Backup torch
Left shoulder: SPG, backup torch. Occasionally a pony.
Left hip: Occasionally an SMB + spool, or a pony.
Butt: Occasionally a reel or a camera
Front crotch strap: Nothing, it's a sewn in d-ring on one setup and non-existent on my other harness.

Out of water I attach things like camera, my primary reg, or my primary torch to them as well but generally they are in use underwater so don't get clipped off.

Equipment carried varies by dive and I utilize the following placement.

Right chest D-ring: backup light

Left chest D-ring: backup light, line markers, camera, upper clip for stage/deco bottle

Right hip D-ring: SPG, reels/spools, lower clip for stage/deco bottle

Butt D-ring: reels/spools, tail of SMB that's bungied to BPW, lower clip for stage/deco bottle (depending on config)

Anything else is in a pocket (wetnotes, shears) or secured directly to BP or harness (knife, liftbags, etc).

Great question, thanks for asking. As I slowly add to my Kit it is interesting to hear/see what other people do with all their stuff. I would like to streamline as much as possible, but still take enough gear along.

What do people do particularly with the DSMB? I have the DAN one and it is quite big to dangle with a spool from a d-ring. (It might be overkill, but we are doing a few drift dives this month when we get to Playa and I want to incorporate it into my setup.)

light and octo holder. I have a retractor for my gauges and extra D-rings in my pockets for my shears, SMB, reel, and my emergency pack (which contains dye pack, signal mirror, whistle, and strobe).

I have my SPG clipped to the left hip d-ring. A backup light on the left and right chest d-rings. If I'm wearing a wetsuit that doesn't have pockets then I'll clip my surface marker buoy and spool to the rear d-ring. If I'm wearing my other wetsuit that does have pockets then the SMB and spool go in the pockets.
My primary regulator gets clipped to the right chest d-ring if I'm breathing the backup reg. as does the primary light head if it's not in use.
I'm probably going to put a couple of loops of bungie on the bottom rear of the backplate for stowing the SMB in the future (as others have mentioned) until I put pockets on my other wetsuit. If the rolled up SMB is just clipped to the rear d-ring it tends to flop around. the two loops of bungie seems like it might be a cleaner way of securing it, rather than just clipping it off.
sounds like a good idea, I think I'll try that.

I use the Zeagle Scout (love the heck out of that thing!!). There are 4 D-rings and two pulls for the shoulder straps that are useful as D-rings.

Left hip: SPG/compass
Right hip: Light if used for that dive

Right pull strap: Octo
Left pull strap: empty

Right shoulder D-ring: empty
Left shoulder D-ring: Surface whistle and safety sausage

Backup light, if using lights on the dive goes in the pocket.

Flashlight (if needed), shaker also called Aqua-Maraca (very cool accessory!), camera. You don't wan't too much "flair" or you'll wind up missing the stuff you went underwater to see in the first place
