Hello everyone,

First post and first time at this site. My wife and I are new to diving and we are thinking of starting to purchase our equipment. We live in South Florida and have made a couple of dives and feel that it is time to start getting our own stuff.

Currently we are looking at the Aqualung Legend, but after reading some of the threads it seems like the Scubapro S600 may be the way to go.

Out there who has or has had or has used the Aqualung Legend and do you like it or not?

Please give me the pro's & con's to your opinion.

Thanks.

Welcome to Scubaboard!

As an owner of both, I feel that it boils down to personal preference. I have had both regs for over a year and honestly I liked the Legend enough to buy a second one. They are both phenomenal regulators and you will find a broad range of opinions. I've had both regs below 120ft and honestly couldn't find any difference in the breathing ability of both. I've shared air with people at those depths to test them and see if I noticed any performance differences and neither one even flinched while supplying air to two divers at that depth. So they both perform very well.

I went with the Legend due to the cost being a bit less and my LDS was not a Scubapro dealer so service would've meant sending it out and waiting longer to get it back. Also, I personally didn't like the swivel turret on the MK25, it seemed gimmicky to me and was more of a pain with hose management. I like the fixed 1st stage ports that the Legend offers. In addition, my Legend has the Automatic Closing Device so if I forget to put the dustcap on before I soak the reg then there is no harm done as the ACD has closed and kept the 1st internals dry. The MK25 to my knowledge didn't have that ability.

Overall, they are both great regulators and it will be up to you to determine which is easier to get serviced and if price is factor for you. IMO, Scubapro is the SONY of diving. Great products and you pay for that fact even when there are comparable products available. Good luck in your decision.

Happy & safe diving to you!

ghostrider_23,

I know this is not what you asked, but just wanted to throw this out for you to consider:

All things being equal (and with most mid- to high-end regs, they are equal) the biggest deciding factor is where you will get them serviced. The skill of the reg tech who will maintain your regs in years to come, and the general "friendliness & helpfulness" of the dive shop are really more important.

Have fun with whatever you decide!

Best wishes.

Exactly, having someone near who can service your regs is vital. If there is a need you can always drop it n pick up a day or 2 later.

As for regs I love my legends lx and having owned the mk25/s600 I much prefer the legend lx. They breath smoother/easier, more moist and are sealed. Although, heavier, the legends are really high quality and are built to last.

Lotta really good regs out there for a whole lot less. I'd opt for the AL over the SP given only two choices.

Yes, there are other regs that are really affordable and yet have very good performance.

If this was my first setup I would consider the Apeks DS4/XTX50/XTX50 or the Hog D1 regs as they are all very easily repaired/serviced but you need to check about where you are at to see if there are any service centers nearby.

I use a Legend as my primary and a Titan as my backup reg.
I love my legend.

I count among my many regulators an Aqualung Legend. It is a sweet breathing workhorse, that performs extremely well for any of the types of recreational diving that I currently do. I echo the other posters opinions that given the high quality of today's equipment, much of the decision on which brand to go with will come down to which LDS will be doing your equipment maintenance. The good news is that both AL and SP have worldwide appeal and dive shops everywhere are used to working on both brands. Find a shop whose technician is competent and gets along well with you and take it from there.

I suppose it's hard to be impartial with the USdiver1 nametag.

I have two Legends, they are great, one is about 6-7 year old, and the other is 1 year old, both breath as good as the other and the design has not changed.

I got the change to pickup the older one used for a good deal and jumped at the chance, have since converted it to ACD, and "LX" and it is now a clone of my newer Legend LX Supreme ACD.

Legends breathe great, but definitely get the LX version. My regular ACD free flows in current bad and it has been adjusted several times by the LDS
