This is "my" bad-ass diver...my boy! image.jpgimage.jpg

I'm not much into the badass worship (the language makes me very suspicious of motivation) but Lionel "Buster" Crabb had to qualify.
Btw, that is an early CisLunar RB in the post above, developed by Bill Stone. His Huautla exploration using a variant of it makes for a story that might also qualify.

All military divers, certainly.
Also commercial and public safety divers.

I've got something of the same problem, which is part of the reason I posted the OP.

For me, the word "badass" makes me think of... let's say risk acceptance way outside what I would consider prudent. Sometimes, I start thinking "idiot". But then, one person's totally safe dive is another person's idiocy, so I try to avoid being too judgmental about other divers' practice. I don't always succeed at that, though.

Please don't use the word "ass" in the same post as the phrase "tongue in cheek" ever again... it really screws with the "inappropriate workplace content" filters here at the office.
A girl I went to high school with has won several awards for films called "Tongue in Cheek." That phrase hasn't been the same since it dawned on me what it meant.

I suppose I am responsible for bringing this term recently to ScubaBoard, so I should comment... I think here of someone who is doing, or has done things that would seem very dangerous, or risky, if it were _ME_ doing those things, given my current skill level, but perhaps that _THEY_ can do well, safely, and with a great confidence, thanks to having better skills or experience. A badass diver is thus someone who inspires me to improve my skills... If someone does something that is objectively just plain reckless, that would be dangerous to anyone regardless or their skill level, I would just call them an idiot... (or a hero, e.g., if they are taking a huge risk to save someone else's life).

But then, one person's totally safe dive is another person's idiocy,

This ^^^.

Hmmm... a "badass diver?" Probably one I wouldn't want to dive with (but then most of my thousands of dives are solo anyway)
