Is offline use critical for you, or could you live with a website that allows you to plan on a server and download the plan? Platform-independence is so much easier online ... no apps, no downloads, no updates, no compilation, ...

Offline use is mandatory for some of us. Its not hard to be many hours away from even roaming cell service for me. And data on a satellite phone is not gonna happen.

Absolutely.

I see. Offline + platform-independent is a challenge. An open source Java tool could run on Windows/MacOS/Linux/Android; it requires installing Java run time environment first and won't work on iPad/iPhone. Would that reach a wider user group than an online service?

If you're going to leave out iOS support (which I fully support :)), why not just port Subsurface to Android? It already runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Possibly just port the back end and implement a new native UI. A native UI implementation would very likely be much nicer than trying to do one that worked on all those platforms anyway.

They have a project to do that. You can probably try it out if you try hard enough. I think the maintainer comes on here from time to time to announce new versions.

I don't know honestly.
To date most software has been offline/stand alone. Although I think we're all a bit spoiled that we don't have to call up Bill Hamilton to put some depth/BT/mix combo on punch cards, run it through a Cray, and call us back with a schedule on a pay phone :D

I took a class in Fortran IV while in college in 1969. I probably would not be of much help with that, though, so I won't try to recover my memories of that. Besides, it would be tough to find a card punching machine.

I have deleted (not edited) several posts that contained snarky jibes. Some had some useful info in them but in light of the train wrecks some other posts in this forum became, mods will be taking a very hard line to require everyone to play nicely. Please be very thoughtful in your posts so that we don't shut down another thread and/or block people from making any posts. Marg, SB Senior Moderator

PastoDeco on both MacOS and iOS. The interface is a bit odd, but I got used to it. It does seem to be available for Windows and Android, too. I think it does all the calculations internally in metric (which is fine), but converts to imperial with some minor rounding errors. For example, when I enter a tank pressure of 3300psi it immediately changes to 3307psi. That's not a big deal, just annoying. The deco schedules it calculates seem to be consistent with other software I've tried. (Including the ceilings displayed from my Perdix and calculated in SubSurface.)

Marg, you are WAY over moderating in my opinion.
