One of the reasons Shearwater is at the very top of the dive computer market is, besides the awesome products, fast delivery, exceptional customer service, is the fact they listen to their customer and will often make product changes based on customer feedback. The customer wants AI, we can do that...

Am I wrong in my memory that at about the time shearwater announced the perdix, they also said there were no plans for any AI unit?

Perhaps at the time they didn't have any plans for it......or they might have just been keeping their cards close to the chest.

No doubt they were getting many requests for it.

You're not wrong. They didn't have any plans for it. Then they read the threads on ScubaBoard about us wanting just that and voila... the rest is history.

I agree, Shearwater customer service is great!
I wanted some extra o-rings for my Predator, they expressed shipped them to me free of charge.

They really hit a home run with the Perdix. Smaller than the Predator, a good display, takes AA batteries, double o-ring battery cap, and the integrated bungee mount is nice.

I'm on day 5, awaiting an email reply from Liquivision, regarding my Xen. the screen display is becoming dimmer.
I'm giving some benefit of the doubt, considering its DEMA.
I am curious, and optimistic, about their reply.

Hi I was looking at the SUUNTO steel EON as its £645 with transmitter but now the shearwater AI is calling lol how much is it ? and where can you get one from ?

At the current exchange rated the Perdix will be £950 (plus transmitter) vs the £645 Inc transmitter for the Eon

The only difference is with the algorithm if you desperately want GF then it's the Perdix. Oh and the Perdix uses AA batteries over the rechargeable one in the Eon

I have 250 dives on my Eon, using multiple transmitters. Diving to 40m and incurring deco, or repetitive diving on vacation, or just weekend fun diving - I've not found it limiting in any way. The battery hasn't degraded in the 2 years of ownership

I'm happy to give my honest opinion of the Eon if you want to PM me rather than e rail this thread.

Good as the Perdix is, IMHO it isn't worth the £300 ($370) extra. But again that's only my opinion

They only use the one sender that has been used by Oceanic for ages. They feel that's been perfected, so they concentrated on perfecting their end in terms of reliability.

While no doubt the transmitters made by all the mfg have been perfected over the years I am not surprised that the one by Oceanic/Pelagic/AUP is being used as they are a company that has mfg equipment for multiple companies. Notice the transmitter being used by Shearwater is also the same transmitter used by Aqualung's new line. Similarly Mares/UWATEC/ScubaPro use the same transmitter (made by them, not AUP et al). I think the only sole transmitter out there is the one mfg by Suunto.

Pealagic Pressure Systems (owned by Aqua Lung) transmitters: Oceanic, Aeris, Hollis, Sherwood, Tusa, Aqua Lung
