Do you have to make any changes to your harness to sling a pony, as in additional D rings, etc.? Just curious. Couldn't find anything about that.

Depends on your rig. A standard BP/W setup you attach to the left hip and chest D-rings. On BCs they may or may not have those, so mods may or may not be needed.

I have a BP/W. Another quick question, how is your weighting affected?

Because real life has a way of doing that to some people.

Some people, no doubt. Some people should not be diving. Since such an elevation in RMV is a dominant variable in deciding the size of one's gas supply, a diver should make a serious assessment of their propensity to panic as part of their redundant gas planning.

My pony tanks (a 13 or a 19) leave me a coup!e pounds negative. I do adjust the position of my weight but not the amount in the event I need to hand the pony off.

My al30 is near neutral so weighting is barely affected. I do notice better trim though. Keep your eyes open on Craigslist or here in the Classified section for a used tank. Take your time and if one pops up at the right price and your budget allows jump on it. Same for a reg set.

In the meantime borrow the AL19 and AL30 that your buddies have to try out.

If you have the standard Hogarthian harness with 5/6 d rings than you won't need to add anything. Depends on how far away the left hip d ring is from your back plate, you may find yourself adjusting that d ring 1 inch in either direction once you start slinging.

If you have any interest in doing tech or going deeper, I really recommend a 40. Difference between slinging a 30 or a 40 underwater is nothing, a 40 makes a nice deco bottle for two repetitive dives, a 30 can be VERY small if you have an average/slighlty above average SAC rate. I know the dives I am doing a 30 just wouldn't be enough. There are countless threads on this forum where you can see 30 vs 40 debated.

I had a 40 pony, converted it into a 100% O2 bottle at its last VIP, I'll probably end up getting another 40 soon. If you just want a pony and will buy a 40 for deco later, then look at a 19 or 30. You strike me as a person who is trying to plan her training and gear purchases well in advance with an eye towards value for dollar spent, if that is the case, go with the Lux AL40.

Marie, I know you said 30, but I just got this system and it's really a nice little setup for an emergency pony.

Very little overall affect on weighting but for some it feels heavy at first. Some also find it awkward for a bit then you just don't really notice it there anymore.
