Curious! I'm doing a live aboard in February, I'm checking my gear back all the thru to my destination (Bahamas) what's the rule with dive knives in checked in luggage?

Not sure about US but over here there is no issue with transporting knives, shears, trilobites etc with hold luggage.
Had my hold luggage with 1 4inch blade, 1 set of shears 1 pen knife and scissors - no issue (and none with any of the rest of the group of 20).

I tend to think it would not be a problem since they won't be carry on, but I could call the airlines and ask...but why do the logical thing...LOL!!!

I've never heard of an issue with knives in checked baggage. Which live aboard?

I traveled by cruise ship, which X-ray luggage as you return to ship. They spotted the dive knife in the luggage and had me empty entire bage of all SCUBA items onto a table to go over until satisfied that it was, indeed, a four inch, folding dive knife. Then they let me pack it all up and bring it into ship.

Prohibited Items

Click on "Sharp objects" tab. All kinds of sharp objects are listed as okay in checked baggage. This is TSA's rule, so it's applicable to air travel to and from the US.

There was a similar thread on the cutting tool tab. Carry On Cutting Tool?

I finally settled on a set of EMT 3.5" Mini-Shears (on Amazon) because my interest is more on a carry-on cutting tool. These meet the TSA standard for carry-on scissor blade size. I haven't traveled with them yet, so not absolutely sure if they'll get through.

These will rust out after a couple trips, but they're very inexpensive and easily replaced.
I choose shears over knives because I would use it to cut away entanglements. I don't expect to be in any U/W knife fights with Mike Nelson.

I had my smallest dive knife taken from me last year when going on a cruise. This year I just broughtt shears.
