One other possibility non-medical. If she was overweighted (or doing a hot drop) and her tank valve was off or not fully on. She might have panicked as she found herself sinking and without air and drank some water in the first few seconds of the dive and quickly passed out.

Don't know about the deceased but I see lots of folks on boats checking their regs incorrectly on boats. They take a couple breaths without looking at the gauge.
All the more reason to be able to do a valve drill/flow check.

Thanks for the update, Colo Hippie.. Glad to hear she was recovered... Hopefully, it'll bring a little bit of closure for family & friends..

Any mention of what depth / location she was found? Computer logs?

Just an update for those following this. Her body has been recovered and identified so the family will have closure. No indication was given if an autopsy will be performed. I am guessing one will be done but who knows with the Honduran authorities.

I would love to know how they recovered her. (Actual Search vs. floating or more buoyant body) Hopefully the equipment analysis and autopsy will shed some light on the cause of the accident. Lots of learning moments from this tragedy. So many possibilities...

Thanks again Terry for posting this. If anyone has any details on the recovery process, please share.

Finally, my condolences to all concerned.

Jay

That sounds like a miracle right there, maybe one day we'll hear how that happened, given the odds against it.

Her body washed up on shore a short distance East of the dive site she was lost at. She was found by a couple locals. There has been no mention of her dive computer, or anything else, just the notification that she was found and the authorities have confirmed it was her.

I doubt we will hear anything else about it here on the island as the government does not share much information. IMO the only reason they publically acknowledged they found her is that the people who first found here posted it on a local social media page which forced the gov to confirm it was her.

It sounds like her body came off the BCD & floated up. She could also had a console type dive computer that stayed with the BCD.

Sounds to me like the DM spotted her going down beyond the expected depth and was banging on his tank to try to get her attention as he chased after her.

I wonder if the DM noticed trails of her bubbles as she went down, which could indicate that she was conscious & breathing at that time, instead of plunging down like a rock.

Colo Hippie,

This is pretty amazing news considering how negatively buoyant she appeared to be based upon the reports.
Did the locals mention where they found her washed ashore? I'm curious if it were in the same general vicinity or further away.
Do you have a link to the social media page where this was posted?
