I claim there are 2 different questions:
- do I need insurance?
- if so, who should I buy it from?

I believe I need insurance. Travel and medical. We travel a lot, not just for scuba. So I buy a product that meets my needs.

DAN? Nope. We purchase an annual travel medical product that covers much more than DAN. It also costs more....
Same here. Depends on what other insurance you have/need for travelling in such places as the U.S. or elsewhere. On another thread the question of whether DAN covers you should you exceed your training or depth on a dive. Don't think that one has been answered for sure yet.
My Blue Cross covers me for dive accidents. Who knows in what situation.....

Why both DAN & Blue Cross? I don't know. We've used the Blue Cross coverage 3-4 times while in the US. Don't honestly know if DAN would've covered those situations. I guess if you pay enough anybody will cover you for a list of things.

Most air ambulance (chopper not fixed wing) charge $5000 just to start the engine. Then the meter starts. Fixed wing, I don't even want to start.
With all the chambers shutting down, Albany Georgia is the closest one from cave country. Again DAN to the rescue.

The key selling point for DAN for me was that there is immediate service. DAN is recognized, for the most part, at all popular diving locations around the world. In Cozumel specifically, if you need a chamber ride, or worse, I believe payment may be necessary before treatment is given. There may be a delay in treatment while your insurance carrier clears treatment and the maze of the network coverage is sorted out. My Dan policy is a little over $100 a year for my family. It's money well spent as far as I'm concerned, especially with the amount of time we spend in Mexico.

Good luck, safe travels.

How much do you think heart surgery costs? Getting there is small change compared to getting yourself fixed.

Why do you think DAN is special for air ambulance?

Agreed. Make sure your insurance provider has 24 hour world wide support.

Blue Cross is travel insurance and cover broader area except on diving related accident.
I paid around Can $550.00 pa for both of them together.
Understood. My blue cross product is both travel and medical. No exclusions for diving. We pay about $650 for 2 people.

DAN is also more than just an insurance company.

Far from it. Dan isn't an insurance company. Dan is an underwriter and they sell other people's product for a cut. I hope you really didn't sign up with DAN thinking they were an insurance company, because that tells me you didn't even read what you signed.

You don't have "DAN insurance". What you have is accident insurance with The United States Life Insurance Company of New York. US Life is a subsidiary of AIG. You've seen the AIG commercial with Fred Thompson on TV telling seniors they are about to die and they can get $10,000 worth of insurance "for pennies a day" with no health questions and no physical and it doesn't matter if you have pre-existing conditions. Because if you die without AIG your kids and grandkids are gonna hate you forever! Call today! Operators are standing by. :)

Blue Cross in this part of the world offer different package as compare with Canada. There is depth limit to 30m for scuba diving.
And depth limit is one of the reason that I had chosen DAN AP Preferred Plan +
DAN Divers Alert Network Asia-Pacific : Insurance Comparison

As a tec diver the Preferred Plan + is the only one really appealed to me as long as I do not dive beyond IANTD Trimix suggested range ie. 100m..
