Thanks, Ron. Some people value buddy gas monitoring (seems like some people who dive with immediate family, especially kids, show a liking for that in posts), and a display size like the console sounds great. Pull that off as good or better battery life, and I want to see this thing.

I'm like'n my Cobalt 2, by the way.

A big issue will be price. The Cobalt is a recreational computer. While the large majority of rec. divers never go tec. from what I understand, the Perdix can do that and Shearwater is a strongly reputable name in tec. diving (this will impact recommendations on dive computers on Scuba Board, a form of 'future proofing'). Plus for big display wrist rec. diving units the EON Steel seems to get a lot of notice. Atomic's going to be late to the game.

Richard.
Yes, I would much rather have been out with this a year (or years) ago. But I would also rather be best in the market than first to market. We could have plugged in RF gas monitoring, but in addition to the much greater range there is so much more that can be done in the future with acoustic signals. Lots of opportunity for adding new capabilities down the road.

Well, I can say that (in my opinion) it's going to be the coolest looking dive computer, by miles. Definitely worthy of Atomic's style. :) The case will be metal, but not titanium.

We are in the midst of determining which out of many planned capabilities will be included in the first firmware release.

Ron, will the new toy be ready for ADEX in April or Atomic is waiting to unveil it at DEMA this year?

I would not want to promise anything for April. Atomic doesn't look to shows or events to determine when to introduce new products, just when ready. They wouldn't hold up any release because of a show.

Too bad we have to wait for an announcement. Would love to know if they used the same transmitters as (Oceanic, Hollis, shearwater) or Suunto, or created their own proprietary unit.

As mentioned above in this thread, one thing I can definitely say is that the Cobalt wrist does not use RF transmission for tank pressure, as do those you mention. It sends tank data through acoustic signals, which travel much better underwater than RF. This allows us to have an effective range in the low 100's of feet for monitoring buddy tank pressures- depending on conditions and obstructions. And also provides the ability to be monitored from a boat based receiver. So yes, Atomic is making their own transmitter unit.

Thanks for the info Ron. How is the clandestine operation progressing?

It's so incredibly discouraging and frustrating (and really damages the brand) to have this drag on for, what, a decade now? I have been waiting for the Next Great Thing in a wrist computer, for....well, more than a few years. Manufacturers come and go, civilizations rise and fall, glaciers recede, stars are born and die, and...I'm still waiting. It was time to move on long ago. Sigh.

I have a big trip coming up a year from now. I have zero confidence that this will be resolved by then - or, frankly, ever. Honestly, why should anyone? I'm not trying to be snarky, but seriously, come on, how is this at all credible?
