No thanks!!! I will let you read it while I dive :D I don't mind doing an extra 2 minutes, I am in no hurry and very lazy, like most good divers.

I'm busting chops, but I think if you're going to offer others advice you want to make sure the advice is accurate. As explained up thread, the popularity and power of Shearwater computers is the ability to customize your gradient factors. In other words you could make it the most conservative computer out there or the least.

If you ever get into deep and/or deco diving, you'll find this is where the Shearwater computers shine as they support the use of mixed gas and the ability to accurately plan a dive using deco software. Combined with knowing your RMV, you can put together impressive profiles and NOT run out of gas.

The rec mode on the Shearwater computers was just a way to expand sales, IMO. The value is on the tech side.

Offer them advice? The op is asking for reviews and I shared my experience. I am not sure why, but a lot of people on SB seem to get up in arms when someone shares their experience. I am sure piling up the experiences, I thought this was a good place to share them.

BTW I never made a change to my watch so it is in medium mode, and I still had 12 minutes less of bottom than my son wearing my Oceanic.

Oceanic has a rep for not being as conservative as others, so I pointed that out. Suunto is super conservative. Those are just the facts.

I am sorry but I don't see how being able to make the Teric less conservative erases what I said in my original post, when I clearly said "if you like conservatism the Teric is perfect"

And that is absolutely true based on your explanation. My oceanic does not ever give me anything but a 3 minute safety stop. Unlike my Teric. So this was something new for me, and I wanted to share that so if he got a Teric, he could expect that to happen when he gets close to his NDL, I am not sure what that has to do with which algo is it running.

BTW brother I didnt quote that to you.

The safety stop in Rec mode on the Teric is adjustable in duration to user preferences....3 or 4 or 5 minutes.
There is an adaptive mode that will lengthen the SS from 3 to 5 minutes if you get within 5 mins of your NDL, or exceed 30m/100 ft. The Adapt setting is a good one. I don't know what the out-of-the-box default is.

Unfortunately and incorrect fact

My Perdix with its 45/95 setting is more conservative than my Suunto. It all depends on the settings you apply and how you use them, and for what reason

Making broad sweeping statements, especially on subjects you have little knowledge will just cause you to look foolish

Yea it must be out of the box cause thats exactly what happened.

If you like being conservative then the Teric is great because even if you don't go into deco, if you even get close within 5 minutes I believe, it will add 2 minutes to your safety stop.

Whether it happens on this setting or that setting or not has nothing to do with the reputation for individual brands, and if you are saying that Suunto is not considered conservative then I have to ask what planet you live on.

Remember not everyone wants to analyze every part of the user manual, some of us want to ask a few questions that pertain to us here and then go dive

I'm saying based on actual fact rather than repeated hearsay that broad sweeping statements like all suuntos are conservative is incorrect. I know this from actually diving multiple brands of computers at the same time.

If you don't' want to understand how your computer functions that's fine - some of us find time to read the manual despite diving considerably more than you and for the benefit of other readers wish to correct you incorrect statements

Some of us find that educating oneself regarding dive computers pays great dividends. It might be valuable to you if you would read your Teric manual, then you would understand the GF settings and the safety stop options. It might also help keep you from posting incorrect statements here on SB.

@Diving Dubai is absolutely correct. The Suunto HelO2 and D9tx run Technical RGBM. The DX, Eon Core and Steel run Fused RGBM, D5 runs the new Fused RGBM 2 (I'm sure others to follow this upgrade). All these computers run Technical RGBM within recreational limits. When set at personal setting P-2, these computers are as liberal as DSAT and Buhlmann ZH-L16C at a GF high of 95.

Thanks guys for your input on this. It’s been years since I shopped for a computer and this one seems to really catch my attention. It seems there’s a consensus on this being an excellent unit, and haven’t really read any negatives? Anyone else had the compass malfunction?
