The QRoo government, both the Tourism Director and the Governor, have said that tourism will NOT resume on 1-June, as has been widely speculated and reported by other outlets. More details at Quintana Roo government rejects June 1 reopening by hotels and many other outlets.

I love how these messages continue to be completely contradictory :)

Tourism Minister Marisol Vanegas Pérez burst a few bubbles when she said that “it’s not true that they’ll be able to reopen, since the companies themselves don’t determine that, nor the market. It will be the federal and state governments.”

“Yes, they’ll be able to open in a preparatory fashion by means of a health certification issued by the Quintana Roo government, which will be voluntary and not obligatory. The main objective is for businesses to be prepared to return to activities on a still unspecified date in June,” she said.

So far companies like Xcaret, AM Resorts, Hard Rock, Mayakoba, Royalton, Temptation, Coral Princess and Fiesta Americana Cozumel, among others, have announced June 1 reopenings.

I saw a notice from the governor of Quintana Roo that under new regulations, all people (tourists included) are to wear a mask in public places.

Cozumel cases continue to tick upward. It seems like I've heard more small gatherings at the neighbors, and I've seen several people not wearing masks.

After saying yesterday that tourism would not resume on 1-June, the Govenor of QRoo is today saying that businesses should plan to be allowed to recall workers beginning on 1-June for reopening preparations, and that tourists would be allowed starting between the 8th and 10th of June. I saw a notice from the governor of Quintana Roo that under new regulations, all people (tourists included) are to wear a mask in public places.

And...enforcement when people ignore that?

Today a female was rescued by lifeguards off the northern "get together beach for locals". Just barely survived…maybe jail!
Doctors in the know (that I know) suggest that "reported cases" only come from public hospitals and do not count in the public count, and even then testing is low. Many health professionals have it including Dr. Cruz who went thru Intensive care but is now at home.

They hope for a July or August opening.

Sounds reasonable. Are they actually enforcing it?

LMAO - yes. Because masks were few and far between, they do random road checks - driving a moto with two people, car with two in the front seat or no mask, pull over. They are checking plates and papers if they pull you over too. The word is, play nice and you get a free mask - be an ass and you get a free room. They're writing tickets too, don't know what the fine is though.

It's gotten a bit out of control here with people just going wherever they want, I'm a little hesitant to go on a joyride because I think they might crack down at anytime.
