My friend's son just returned from Akumal on Fri. Tested negative before he returned.

Bad news: Infected his entire family and his father was admitted to hospital this morning.
Good news: He and his college buddies had a great time down there.

I’ll apparently have the unpopular opinion here but for the past year of retirement, I’ve done nothing but travel.

For 10 months, I tried to get the virus so that I could get it over with, sorta like the chicken pox. I wear a mask when I have to but if I don’t have to, I don’t. My choice. Not yours. My views on freedom. Not yours. I respect your choices and while you don’t have to like mine, you can respect it. I’m not here to talk politics.

I slept in the same bed, next to my lady when she had it, happy I was finally going to get it over with. A month after she had it, I still had not got the virus. I had several friends who had caught it come over while they were supposed to be quarantined so that I could try and get it.

Our trip to Belize came, and after getting tested and cleared we were able to fly with me being required to wear a mask. I wore it in the airport(s). I wiped everything down. I sanitized my hands. I social distanced.

While in Belize, we got checked every day for symptoms but also our temp. The entire time we were gone, no symptoms.

our trip came to an end and it was time to head back. Once again, face masks, sanitizer, alcohol wipes, etc. went back through the airport(s). You know, one of the cleanest places that are supposed to be with the new filters and cleaning protocols and social distancing.

got home on Monday and on Friday I was out with covid. I felt it come on. It was just like the flu. I took Zinc therapy. I drank bottles of cough syrup. I ate pills to help with drainage. Etc. Once I started having breathing problems, my lady, a former ER nurse said that if my oxygen dropped below 90, I had to go to the hospital. It never did. 9 days later I was back to my normal self. When she had it, hers lasted almost 3 full days then she recovered completely.

yes, I understand people die but I have yet to see anyone die “from covid”. They all die from “covid related” meaning they have something else going on that covid compounds.

we will not be getting vaccinated until there have been several years of testing. Every company rushed this vaccine to the market but I’m not just willing to blindly follow until I see more results.

To give you an idea on how much we/I traveled, since this started, I’ve been to; DC, Virginia, Maryland, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Arkansas (several times), Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Missouri, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky (several times), Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Belize. We’ve stayed in Airbnb and hotels. They’ve all been cleaned quite well and we’ve never had a problem. We are going to Kentucky and Tennessee next month for a week and I just got back from StL for a week.

All in all, I’ll continue to travel.

I have to wonder how many others you infected with your irresponsible selfish choices. Your behaviour is incredibly self-centred and uncaring. You should be ashamed.

This certainly shows you can travel irresponsibly.

Yes, I should totally be ashamed. Absolutely. /sarcasm

I traveled quite responsibility and ended up catching covid.

you guys need to do more studies and see that masks are really like 5% effective. There’s a lot of studies out there if you’re willing to actually listen to science and not just what your government says to do.

Here’s another situation; after being retired for almost a year, I was approached about a job a few weeks ago. I accepted it and was sent to StL to be trained.

StL metro has a mask mandate but the company I was working for didn’t care. And I mean a 359 million dollar a year company, not some small, anti government mom and pop shop. I think I saw 2 people the entire week of training with a mask on. Their other location in Missouri, zero people wearing masks. I ended up resigning as the company had other issues that made no sense and I was poached by another company. The new company policy; masks around customers. Period.

Hell, we go see some customers and go into meetings and they’ll take the masks off the minute we get behind closed doors.

In short; people will tell you they’re all about the masks but a growing population is pretty much done with them. A lot more people don’t seem to care anymore.

hell; my lady’s mom who is a blue blooded, democrat voting, would rather die before doing anything the government says she isn’t supposed to doesn’t wear a mask. She’s almost 80.

lots of people from a lot of different backgrounds have different feelings about the masks.
