Actually, that's not correct. I do own a Shearwater, but my backup is another brand. So it's not just Shearwater. And off the top of my head, I can name at least two other brands that do the same. So there's at least 4 answers to that, and quite possibly more.

Do tell. What other brands continue to "provide safe dive information" after a deco violation is triggered?

Safe is relative as we’ve discussed already, and a deco obligation is based on conservatism settings.

You said that the only answer was Shearwater, so I’m interpreting your question as which computers won’t lock out after a deco violation. Whether that deco obligation is to the theoretical max or the user set buffer is the question that needs to be answered.

On my right wrist, I wear a Shearwater Perdix AI. On my left wrist I wear a Garmin MK2s. The Garmin allows you to disable the lockout, so it’s up to the user. The other two that I was thinking of that don’t lockout are Ratio and Deep6. There may be others as well.

Now a different question. Which manufacturers offer computers that provide dive information after a deco violation? The answer is all of them. There may be an exception, but I haven’t run across it yet. Every computer with a lockout that I’ve heard of continues to provide dive information after a violation. Time and depth is dive information.

Wearing a Perdix primary and a Suunto as backup... (not optimal, but you takes what kit you has...)

Perdix set to a bog-standard 50:80, Suunto set to -2 it's most "aggressive" setting

Perdix shows deco clear, Suunto still demanding to stay under 3m/10ft otherwise it'll throw an absolute sulk and won't let you use it for two days as a punishment for daring to go against it's demands...

The Perdix works fine; the Suunto's throwing a complete paddy on the floor.

Descend below deco ceiling.

You are more than 0.6 m (2 ft.) above the decompression ceiling.

The current depth and stop depth flash red.

If you remain above the decompression ceiling for more than three minutes, the decompression lockout feature goes into effect.

You missed this part.

I suppose that's a reasonable solution: if the user is really intent on doing something stupid, let them, but require an affirmative action that will be interpreted as user assent by the court.

Court? You mean there's dive police that will bang you up in the slammer?

No, there's a next of kin and an ambulance chaser who'll sue the computer vendor for killing their beloved dearly departed idiot who thought mandatory deco is like the snooze button on their alarm clock: just press it and keep diving safely.

Has that ever happened before? Or did you just make it up for this thread? My wife is a PI attorney and she burst into laughter when I mentioned this to her.
