I think the wording is done so that you cant have a shop/policy thats like
Dive charter mandatory fee's
20 for gas
10 for food
10 for X cost
ETC...
(They would be making a profit obviously, even though its contributing towards fee's)
when I perfed my ear, this is exactly what I felt. I should have realized it with the vertigo and all that. (Yes I had the extreme vertigo, extreme pain, and the air sounds). Someone had to come grab me by the shoulders and kinda guide me along.
Edit: Didnt mean to revive an old topic. Forgot...
Ruptured eardrums are HORRIBLE. Ugh. I perforated mine by trying to force some equalization (was only my second dive), so I know the pain that you felt. I also dove twice on the perforation, just dealing with the pain because I thought it was just a blockage ( it took me 3x as long to equalize...
Just figured i'd give an update. I've been int he water lately, and its been hurting me. so I finally went to see an ENT(Ear nose and throat) doctor. Turns out I have a ruptured eardrum..and to think I went diving TWICE with a ruptured ear drum. I knew there was a reason it was still hurting...

Wait... Just realized something. These are courses that need to be taken before starting the class, and arent taught right? Its a wee bit late for me, so sorry if im a bit oblivious at the moment.
Im about to start a 2 week PADI open water course. I can VERY easily squeeze some muscle around my jaw (I don't even feel the muscle really), and equalize the pressure in my ears. I can even do it both ways, increasing or decreasing pressure. I'm wondering if this means I wont have to hold my...
