    Drysuit Seam Repair Cost

I'm in a similar boat with an old Andy's suit. If the melco tape is coming undone in one area, it's likely to come undone in other areas soon. I've tried to aquaseal the spots where the Melco is coming up, but despite doing that, additional leaks start showing up with each dive. I think the...

How long do wetsuits last in storage?

I have wetsuits for my wife and I that have been sitting in storage (folded carefully, in the dark, temperature stable, etc.) for the last decade or so while we had kids. Before that, we dove in them regularly over a few years. I recently pulled out the suits as my kids are getting old enough...

    Babysitting in Kihei

Does anybody who frequents this board have experience with any of the babysitting services in Kihei? We'll need someone to cover 5:30am-noon for some boat dives in a few weeks for our 10 month old. Any recommendations or people to avoid?

    Honoring the Dive Flag

With all of this discussion of dive flags, I have a question. When shore diving, do you regularly post a dive flag in the water? Most of the posts above reference boat diving, where a dive flag is a no-brainer. Do people commonly bring a dive flag along on a shore dive, or do most people not...

Big animals in Cozumel, anyone seen any?

Was it worth it going up to Holbox to see the whale sharks, or not? We have a extra day on the mainland before going home, and we're trying to decide on Chitchen Itza, or the Holbox whale shark trip. Thoughts?

    August SBers!

For those of you going in late August and September, do you get trip insurance? I'm planning an early September trip, and with the hurricane season at its height then, I'm considering insurance, which I usually don't bother with. thoughts?

Whats the low-down on semi-dry suits?

Interesting. We do giant strides from 10' off the water here in the Channel Islands, and the stride never seems to get any of the air out. Perhaps my seals are just a lot tighter than yours are or something. It would be hard for the entry itself to push air past the neck seal and the hood...

Whats the low-down on semi-dry suits?

The trick to the trapping air problem is to burp the suit at the beginning of the dive. Right before you decend, capture as much of the air as you can in the chest area and break the neck seal. All of the air will escape and you'll have a nice tight fit. If you're careful, you can get 99% of...

    Atomic Z1

My wife and I both dive with them and love them. The mechanics are identical to the higher-end atomics without the high cost of the exotic materials. The Z1 does have a 1 year recommended service interval instead of the 2-year on the other atomics, but the lifetime warranty is not dependent on...

    Atomic Aquatics Z1

The Z1 is an excellent reg. My wife and I both use them and I never notice it underwater, it just works. The best thing about the Z1 is that it performs as well as the other Atomic regs and costs substantially less. The higher-end regs have some bells-and-whistles that the Z1 lacks, but you...

    Mares Isotherm Review

I'm pretty sure they don't make the gloves and boots anymore. Any you find around are leftovers from the last time they were making them. It's too bad, because I'd like to have better ankle and wrist coverage than I have with the gloves and boots that I bought before I was certified.

Aeris Atmos AI or Oceanic Proplus 2??

The big advantage of the ProPlus 2 is the huge screen with big numbers and the very granular Nitrogen-loading graph. The Aeris is smaller and lighter. They're both excellent computers manufactured by the same company. Note that they do have a pretty aggressive dive algorithm, so if you're...

How would I get a lobster license?

Here's the URL for the price list on the DFG website: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/fishing/sportfishingfees.html You should be able to buy the two-day nonresident license at any of the vendors listed here: http://dfginternal5.dfg.ca.gov/lasweb/ Note that you'll need an Ocean...

    How dry is your semi-dry?

I always have to burp my semi-dry. If you'd don't burp an isotherm, you'll have to wear a log more weight, Squeeze has been a problem once or twice, but not usually.

    How dry is your semi-dry?

It's hard to tell, really. My swim trunks are damp, but not soaking wet. Usually my chest hair is dry and my chest itself is damp. As a reference, in low-60 degree water, I usually get slightly cold after about 75-80 minutes underwater.

Shear pouches? Where or how to make?

My wife and I stick our shears down the middle of our wrapped up SMBs. If you're carrying a SMB, you should try that.

    New cold-water wetsuit

My wife and I both love our Isotherms. They're pretty warm for short to medium-length dives, even in pretty cold water. However, they aren't as warm as a drysuit. As long as you aren't planning 60+ minute dives, you'll be fine in one. They show up on Ebay pretty often, so I'd keep an eye...

How would I get a lobster license?

Quick note. The licenses are annual January to December, regardless of when you buy them. This late in the year, you should wait until January to buy your license. Otherwise, you'll be spending $35 for 3 weeks of legal hunting. Of course, if you've already bought it, my point is moot. :)
