I just got back from Kapalua earlier this month. After reading advice on Scubaboard.com I thought I might go with B&B Scuba, even though they are down in Kihei. However through email correspondence with them I found they don't go to Lanai, and the forums said that the Cathedrals off of Lanai...
Hey I just took delivery of a new Canon A650 IS. It had been on back order due to a Canon recall, but apparently the defect has been fixed.
Looking on Ikelite's page I see they are releasing this month an A650 housing (6140.65) for $450. I can get the Canon housing (WP-DC18) for $170 + S&H...
Sorry for the dumb question (I did a search first).
My tertiary tank (al80) is 9 months past it's vip date. That puts the air in there about 15 -18 months old. Should I go ahead and dive with it and then get it vip'ed or have the vip done first?
Thanks,
Jerry
Puerto Vallarta Trip Report: 7/2 7/9
After two failed attempts to get back to Cancun area last year (due to hurricane Emily and then hurricane Wilma) we decided to try the Mexican West Coast this year to avoid the Caribbean altogether during hurricane season. We arrived Sunday afternoon...
I hate to bring this up, but...
Some non-diving friends are coming with us this July to the Playa Del Carmen area. They are keenly interested in a "destination snorkel" type location like Xel-Ha and Xcaret. They are very concerned about the post-Wilma condition of these two parks. The web...
I'll be visiting Edinburgh for a week of vacation this January... is there anyplace to dive locally? Any dive charters operating that time of year? Is it worth my while to drag my drysuit along?
Thanks!
Jerry
What is the best technique for calming yourself down and relieving hyperventilation?
Last weekend I was on dive #53. I try to get out for 2 tanks every month, so it'd been about 4 weeks since I was in the water. I was on a dive charter I'd never used before, with 2 buddies I didn't know...
Not sure where to post this...
I'm looking for equipment insurance for my dive trip to Cozumel coming up next month. DAN's website looks like they have both trip insurance and equipment insurance available. According to the FAQ the equipment insurance does not cover gear that I lose while...
Hi all:
I am coming down to SanDiego (from Portland, OR) the evening of Saturday February 26th for a business trip, and am available to dive on Sunday the 27th. Any suggestions? Usually I like to do a charter when I'm travelling, as it takes care of lots of details. However I'm up for...
Hi:
For the past couple of weeks I've been unable to post pictures in forums. I'm not sure what's going on, as I have been successful in the past. From my post I click "Manage Attachments" below, which brings up a form. From there I pick Browse..., then browse to my picture (which is less...
OK I finally splurged on an Argon system. I got tired of getting cold during my dives (48-52 degree PNW water). Adding drygloves last Spring helped, but I still get cold by the end of my second dive. I hope to get out in the next week or two to try it out.
I got a 14 cu. ft. LP (2215PSI)...
Hi guys:

Day 1 - Sunday: My wife and I Arrived at the Mayan Palace condo about 5PM after 20 hours of travel. Pretty exhausted. Freebie award miles from United Airlines included a redeye and 3 hops...
Howdy... I've got a quick question... how do you attach pics to a Private Message? The Attach Files/Manage Attachments capability doesn't seem to exist in Private Messaging.
Thanks,
Jerry
Idle curiosity because I'm a techy kind of guy... Does anybody know which embedded processor Suunto uses in their Cobra computer? A quick search of the Cobra manual doesn't turn up anything.
Thanks,
Jerry
We're heading back to Riviera Maya in October and I was wondering about renting a car. We didn't in February when we were there, and it cost us a small fortune in taxi costs. We heard a horror story from a young couple who were pulled over one night for "speeding". The cop was drunk and...
I dove on a charter boat out of Cape Ann, MA last weekend and one of the divers had a wrist mounted sonar. What a cool concept. You drop a transponder off of your boat on a short tether, dive in, and your sonar points your way right back to the boat. At all times during your dive you know...
Hey all:
I've got the opportunity to travel to MA (Marlborough) next month and have an extra day (May 15) to try some New England diving. Somebody suggested Rockport (Folly Cove?). Can anybody recommend a place to rent tanks and find a buddy? I did a google search and found Cape Ann Divers...
I was following a thread over in the Accidents and Incidents forum ("panic"), and read a post that you should never use your drysuit as a BC. This confused me, as I was taught in my SSI Drysuit class that you should NOT use your BC for bouyancy control when you're diving in a drysuit. You...
