    1st stage failure

Yea happened to me once. Crimp failed at the first stage on my regulator hose, we were at the end of a deep dive and about to start an ascent from 70 ft. Remaining air lasted about 5 seconds. I knew I was in trouble when I went to check my air pressure and the hose went limp. Thankfully my buddy...

    Manual for Oceanic Pro Plus

Thanks Doug for the concise reply to this old post, I just picked up datamax at a garage sale and was happy to easily find the manual from your post. I will be picking up a battery tomorrow and checking this unit out. Thanks

Thought I'd share one of my close calls

Yep in my out of air experince it was the gulp of water that provided the incentive to quit screwing with the regs and gauges and find my buddy NOW ! If I take a line from TSandM else where in this forum "situational awareness" is the skill you need to develop as a diver and it's a useful...

    Survey for vendors

Hi, this is a how to, and or can you support this directed at sysop. You may have seen my thread in "near misses" and my survey in "general equipment" regarding my low pressure hose failure. This has certainly generated quite a bit of interest, and commnets. The survey is still young and the...

How often should we replace LP hoses?

Beanojones, you have certainly gone the distance for us here, I thank you. This is a very sobering thought. "Your failure was not due to age. It was due to improper manufacture." This confirms that my decision to always dive with a pony from now on, is my best insurance. Thanks Again ...

How often should we replace LP hoses?

Some of you may have seen my posting regarding my near miss: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/near-misses-lessons-learned/262694-low-pressure-hose-failure.html Investigating this incident, I have been advised that replacing your low pressures hoses every 3-4 years is "cheap insurance". Ok...

    Low pressure hose failure

Eh I don't think so, if I had a comparable failure to this at 1000ft above water, I don't think I would be making anyposts today. But I don't fly accept underwater, so what do I know. Cheers

    Low pressure hose failure

Good point, I have since replaced the reg, done an imtermediate pressure test, and even gone for a dive with the same first stage. It all worked flawlessly. Not to say that it did not stick but it is not now, I wonder would the 2nd stage free flow under such a high pressure situation like a...

    Low pressure hose failure

49th did you try and kink the hose? I have always wondered how practical it would be. I think a free flow reg or damaged hose at the reg end could be slowed down by kinking the hose (good idea) but in this case the hose came free from the fist stage, ie no hose to kink.

    Low pressure hose failure

Hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like the hose did not reach the end of the ferrule. Is this the case? Tobin I have since removed the "swage" and put it back on for the photo, so it is not 100% back where it was, but a good observation. My best guess is that the hose was not...

    Low pressure hose failure

In 10 seconds you had no air from a lp hose? Rushing air was my first indication of a problem, no air at my reg was the second. Less than a minute before, I had about 900lb remaining so I am guessing how much actual air I had, but I think it's reasonable to think 800lb. Realizing I had no...

    Low pressure hose failure

Greetings, first off I am very glad to be posting this message, and I thank my Buddy for being there when I needed him. From the attached picture you can see a low pressure hose with swage and a hose barb. The hose did have a protector on it at the time I have since removed it to inspect the...

Looking for comments on dive charters and sites near Myrtle Beach SC. Planning on being there March 17 to 24. Coastal and Nu Horizon look like the best operators in town. I like the idea of seeing some sand tigers. We are experinced cold water divers eh and like to see lots or critters...
